Bell is being heard

ROSSVILLE, Ga. - There isn't a hotter recruit in the country than Vonn Bell. He sat down with 247Sports to talk about a crazy couple of weeks.

  • Good read Barton. We whiffed on safeties this past year and would love to add Bell for this next class. I believe he will be in Auburn for Junior Day.

  • How did Alabama "whiff" on safties in 12 when we are stacked and brought in Williams and Collins.

Calm down, little buddy. Big A is an Auburn fan.

  • Sorry Barton, you get an "F" on geography. Bell's high school is just outside of Rossville, GA which is in extreme North Georgia, a suburb of Chattanooga, TN, NOT in West Georgia as you stated. Good article otherwise.

Think he was talking about AU, not UA.

Anyway, don't count out UGA and UT in his recruitment. Pretty sure he grew up a UT fan, but according to this interview, may not matter that much. Really up in the air right now IMO.

  • at this juncture he is strongly leaning toward Bama (saying depthchart / lack of comp for playing time isnt high on his list) & if he indeed ends up in T-town it will give the the Tide 4 of the top 5 from the peach state in 13' .

I guess I whiffed on terminology more than I whiffed on geography. I was at the school. I drove there so I know where it is. It might be as far west as it gets in georgia. But it might have been more appropriately termed "north Georgia" or even northwest Georgia

Let us get Robert Nkemdiche and I could care less about Von Bell. Would love to have him but if we land Foster and Nkemdiche, color me happy regardless of who else we get this year.

Sorry, I couldn't resist … since I work in Rossville and grew up there as a Rossville High Bulldog. … And I would suspect that Trenton might enjoy the "most western" status.

Sure hope we get Bell, but I'm not optimistic. This area of Georgia has historically been ignored by UGA with the occasional flirtation with Dalton and many a talented player has been allowed to become orange!

  • Bama fans are the same on all the boards. Never miss a chance to plead for a pat on the back. You would think with their recent success they wouldn't be such an insecure bunch. They start thread after thread about guys that might have them as their leader, or might visit them, or they might take if they really wanted them, etc.. Those things do apply at times, but not just for Bama. UF/FSU/UGA etc all turn away great players because they either don't have room, or don't like them as much as the "rankings" indicate they should.

All coaching staffs won't see prospects the same way, regardless of what they're ranked. Bama's highly ranked commits aren't any better than others who sign highly ranked kids, they just manage to sign full classes just about every year and don't have the burden of keeping busts on scholly. Essentially, there is no risk involved in their evals.

Either way, everyone is aware that Bama recruits well and will be involved with kids in that region that they offer and want. That fact isn't lost on people if you don't start a thread about every little detail or rumor your mods feed you.

To be technically correct, it is in NW Georgia. North Georgia would actually be more over towards the S.C. border.

According to Bama fans they are all leaning to yall. Sadly this is true for some. Fortunatly i believe ur wrong here. UT is the team to beat he is just taking in the free visits.

  • Coach Mariakas' first name is actually Mark not David. Great Guy actually played baseball for him at another school. After talking to him I get the feeling this will be a TN / UGA battle.

Never mind the fact that I grew up in Rossville, but if you want to be "technically correct" then you find the median latitude in the state. Everything north of that is "North Georgia." I don't know what you'd call the common border with S.C. but it certainly wouldn't be North Georgia.
