Benefits of Hot Yoga?

  • Anyone ever try it? I just signed up for this place in town. It was $40 for the introductory month and you can take unlimited amount of classes in that month to gauge your interest. It's pretty much just Yoga in a room thats heated anywhere from 90-105 degrees.

The various classes they offer are:

    Slow Flow
    Yin
    Fire
    Fusion
    Flow
    Chakra Flow
    Auro Flow
    Fit
    Baptiste Flow
    Freestyle Fusion

Just was wondering if anyone actually recommends it? I'm still blown away by the improvements from yoga the guy who couldn't walk had and thought I would give it a try.

  • Yoga certainly works, there is no denying it

Hot Yoga just speeds up the process of your stretching cause your muscles get looser cause of the heat

Similar to stretching after a long run, maybe better.... not a scientist

a buddy of mine that is a bit on the extreme side does MMA and a lot of snowboarding does it. he absolutely swears by it. said it really opens up your breathing and pores too and you ditch a lot of water weight

And in terms of MMA its adds incredible power and range to kicks and punches and makes your take down defense and offense to a whole different level

As for snowboarding they do it for better balance for better balance makes for better style

  • Any recommendation between classes "fit" "fire" or "yin"? Keep in mind it would be for a first timer...

You have to start at a beginners level. If you started with anything else liked advanced or above you would not be able to do the poses. That ish is bad ass. I did it for a while & got into the best shape of my life. I'm looking to get back into it because the benefits of yoga are endless. I used to be one of those guys that thought it was for women & believe me its anything but.

  • If you are a beginner, I dont think you would want to go into a hot room to learn, yoga is not as easy as a lot of people think it is. and takes years to master

This and I could never do yoga on my own cause I hate stretching so I do thai massage which is basically the same thing just with 1 or 2 people stretching you out with the combination of intense massage

Its a more expensive route but a great one nonetheless

  • I know it isn't the real deal, but me and my buddy did P90x yoga for the first time in our lives and i thought i was dying. I made it through 40 minutes. It is gonna take some build up and a lot of patience but in about 2 months i can get through it i think lol

This is why I did Thai Massage, they force you through the pain cause I couldn't handle it at first

I could barely touch my knees when I got into stretching and was pathetically out of shape in terms of flexibility

Thai Massage is not cheap but they will speed up your progression by leaps and bounds

Ha, the stretches/massages they do on your hamstrings is almost as good as sex

Not to mention being flexible makes your orgasms ten times better, people think this is a joke but its not

It truly makes sex more enjoyable, you will see

I am about as cocky as anyone could possibly be about their fitness and athleticism, anytime I need a bit of humbling I just go do a yoga class. No matter how good you think your kinesthetic awareness or proprioception are, there will be some 70yr old ladies in the class doing stuff you couldn't dream of doing. It's just like anything else, you have to start off at ground zero with yoga.

I agree, My wife is Chinese American and has done yoga since she was a little girl...I do simple yoga compared to what she can do. Her yoga routine actually is mixed with meditation, sometimes her face is filled with tears when she is done, not in pain, just deep concentration.

Yeah the meditation comes from years and my dude explains it like its only possibly with total flexibility pretty much

something about the blood flow taking you into the state of meditation or some shit, he barely speaks english so its hard to understand exactly what he is talking about

All I know is I can't meditate at the level Im at according to him

Hahha maybe one day in about 100 years i can reach that level. I just go to absolute failure and then wait until the next day

exactly, thats why it seems foolish to me ( no offense to the thread) that people are teaching beginning yoga in a hot room, only in America will things like this be done.

    lol yup

All they are doing is risking serious injury but loosing up their muscles too much to wear they will rip themselves up

That is why I trust my guy cause he is thai born and raised and the chicks that work there at his school of thai massage up here in DC are as legit as it gets

My 2 hour sessions that I do around once a month are 200 bucks and Im a member and get 30% off of them

But without it I would have never reached the yoga level Im at now yet alone be able to do it by myself

holy shit you weren't kidding. My class was all girls(nice benefit) but they straight up kicked my ass. I tried using heavier weights but not by much. My shirt was drenching sweat. And I could barely do half the poses as those girls could do. I am going to make a habit of this. It absolutely kicked my butt

  • I consider myself pretty in touch w/ my feminine side, but c'mon guys. My wife does these things all the time. I see no good coming from it except for humiliating myself and really shweaty balls. In fact, she'll come home from the classes and be like, "but there were tons of guys in there!". My response, "Were they gay?" Her response, "Ya" and then she looks sheepishly away.

Although, I promised her that I'd go w/ her to any yoga class on our next anniversary. I will report back of my humiliation and shweaty balls.
