Pat's? Jim's? Any of the other 1.3 million steak shops in the area?

I think the one that I'm thinking about is right down the road from Geno's. It's the one that is always referred to as Geno's biggest competition. I want to say that Pat's was the one that I was thinking about.

John's Roast Pork had the best sandwich that I had in Philly though.

It's Pat's. They're the ones everyone goes to, but glad you found one John's Roast Pork instead.

As an Ann Arbor native (born and raised), I find Zingerman's horribly overrated. The sandwiches are good, yes, but not worthy of all the praise it gets. If you're visiting Ann Arbor on a football Saturday, it's an experience to go to the deli and wait in line for a sandwich. I much prefer the deli's fresh bread and cheeses.

Anyway, before I die, I would love to smash a Primanti Bros. sandwich in Pittsburgh. If I'm ever on my deathbed in the hospital, I'd request it. Meat, coleslaw, fries; what's not to love?

Not very good. If you think Zingerman's is overrated then your in trouble with primantis

I've never seen someone order a "steak and cheese" in Philly, but I would love to see it. The reaction would be priceless.

Also, promoting a non-Philly cheesesteak as the best sandwich in America is laughable.

I have to say a Runza. Ground beef, cabbage, onion and seasonings cooked in a fresh roll. Heaven

I ate one of those when I was at Nebraska in '07.

I joined all of the Nebraska fans pouring out of the stands in the third quarter but I was headed to the bathroom.

I respectfully disagree. I go there several times a year and have a different sandwich each time. For each of them, it doesn't get much better. In fact I've never had better. While the prices might be high, you can test every product in the store - which is an insane variety of all things edible. I usually go in and have a meal through testing everything and take my sandwich to go. I'm sure there are places as good/better out there, I just haven't been exposed to them.

And there's this ... "Food & Wine Magazine named Zingerman's Delicatessen to its list of the 25 best food markets in the world. San Francisco's Ferry Plaza Farmers Market was the only other U.S. name on the list. The common factor - the high quality of their products"

My personal favorites from there -
#50 Where is Deveaux, Anyways? Montréal smoked meat, Switzerland Swiss cheese, Russian dressing & homemade coleslaw on Jewish rye bread.
    #51 Bob & Roz’s Fiesta
Grilled Amish chicken breast, Wisconsin muenster cheese, spicy fire-roasted New Mexico green chiles, roasted red pepper sauce, lettuce & tomato on grilled rye bread. Served with sour cream on the side.

If you haven't tried something from Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, then you are not qualified to make a judgement on the best sandwich in America.

How good? It was voted the best restaurant in Michigan and Zagat rated them a 27/30, calling it a "Mecca for foodies." If you're ever in Michigan, make sure to pick something up.

tried it once and it was amazing

Get out of Philly once and a while. So guess promoting a pizza not from Italy is laughable too? Good luck

I've had Zingermans and it's one of the best delis I've ever been to. That being said, a cheesesteak not from Philly being the best in America is about as laughable as a pizza not from Naples being the best in the world. Doesn't mean they're not very good, but the OP is "best."

Some girl from the boonies in Western PA ordered a steak and cheese at Pats one night. She was promptly sent to the back of the line. Hilarious

Damn, I wish I coulda seen that. Geno's probably wouldn't have even served her. She deserved it though, talk about a violation.
