Best Team That Didn't Get It Done

  • Usual suspects are '02 Canes, 83 Huskers.

Team that needs to be in the mix is '80 Pitt. Hugh Green, Rickey Jackson, Dan Marino, Russ Grimm, Mark May, Jimbo Covert, Carlton Williamson, Greg Meissner, Randy McMillan, Jerry Boyarsky, Bill Maas, and Tom Flynn.

Super Bowl winners, multiple All Pros, three NFL Hall Of Famers...that team was fuggin stacked.

Who else belongs on the list?

Being a Lakers fan, the Portland Trailblazers back in I think 2000. The first year the Lakers won the title w/ Shaq and Kobe. Took the Lakers to a game 7 and had them down by 14 in the 4th quarter. They had an unbelievably stacked team with Damon Stoudemire, Rasheed, Steve Smith, and Scottie Pippen. They were a scary good team.

  • The ninety four Penn St. That didn't get to play for it all. Would have been an interesting game between them and Neb.

  • LSU last year fits this bill perfectly. Played the hardest schedule in the nation and destroyed pretty much everyone then gets shutout in its own state against a team it already beat away for all the marbles. no

  • Maybe not best or scary but 06-07 Phoenix: Amare, Nash, Marion, Diaw, a still viable Kurt Thomas, Tim Thomas, Barbosa, and Raja Bell....lot of potential there

Hey, I'm giving them props in this thread. That team was ridiculously good. If they would have got by LA, they would have absolutely won the championship, no doubt in my mind. Since then, they've had some bad luck. Brandon Roy was an AWESOME player. One of my favorites to watch, but his knees were just terrible, same goes for Oden.

I can agree with this too. Phoenix had a really good team back then. Stoudemire was a complete monster down low then.

  • It is the 83 huskers probably the best college football team to not get to play for a title, Sucks that is was due to one of the worst calls in history.

The other team i think got robbed is Auburn in 04. Williams and Brown at rb, Carlos Rogers, Jason Campbell, Ben Grubbs, Jay Ratliff, Aromashodu. That team had it all and i know im missing a couple big names too.

edit: Marcus McNeill was on that team too!

Don't know about "best" but I think LSU in 2011 was the "most accomplished" college football team not to win it all. Looking at the final rankings, we beat #1 (away) and thoroughly whipped #4 (neutral), #5 (home), #17 (away) and #18 (neutral). If we had played Oklahoma State we could have been the first team to finish #1 and beat #'s 2-5.

    Lawd today!

i agree LSU would have throttled Okie Lite but they had already proven they didnt belong.

and while LSU had a great team in 11' , the November questions ( of beating the #1 team vs getting the W) were answered in January.

Alabama Tom was right when he he said "i told ya we'd get those points back."coffee

imo, Auburn would have beaten Oklahoma any day of the week and twice on Sunday but they werent robbed.

they were saved from the skull dragging that USC put on Okie instead.

i am far from a SC fan but that a bad ass posse of MoFo's on that squad.

We'll never know, but that Auburn team wasn't the same team that SC beat the previous two years. 02 & 03 cost AU a chance at the title.

I'll agree with this one. Watching that bowl game against my Spartans, I kept thinking "you know it's sad when our playcalling is based keeping our QBs from taking their food through a straw for the rest of their lives."
