I'll agree with this one. Watching that bowl game against my Spartans, I kept thinking "you know it's sad when our playcalling is based keeping our QBs from taking their food through a straw for the rest of their lives."

That game was pretty bad. MSU QBs were literally sprinting to the sidelines on some plays. We had third string running backs busing sixty-yard TDs. The worst was probably when the entire Alabama fanbase was bitchin up a storm when y'all scored. They were seriously pissed it wasn't a shutout.

    2010 Alabama

1st Round Draft Picks: Mark Ingram Trent Richardson Julio Jones James Carpenter Marcel Dareus Dont'a Hightower Dre Kirkpatrick Mark Barron Chance Warmack* Dee Milliner*

2nd Round Draft Picks: Courtney Upshaw

Others: Barrett Jones DJ Fluker Nico Johnson Robert Lester

    *Likely 1st round this year

Yeah, the 2010 team may have been our most talented under Saban. We just had too much inexperience on defense, too many injuries, and didn't finish a couple of games (LSU, Auburn). South Carolina just straight whipped us.

Once we got healthy (although Barron didn't play) and our defense got experience, that team showed how good it could be by absolutely demolishing an 11 win Michigan State team. It was 49-7 but it could've been 63-0. That's when I knew we were going to be great in 2011 and probably win the national title, which we did.

I don't think it was the best team not to win it all but it was a team with an insane amount of talent.

I'd go with 2002 Miami and throw 2005 USC into the mix as well.

It became very clear that MSU overachieved to become 11-1 and that Bama VASTLY underachieved to end up at 9-3. What really chaffs my ass is that, if the Rose Bowl tiebreaker wasn't such crap, we'd have ended up playing TCU in the Rose Bowl (and in my opinion, beating them).

It is the 83 huskers probably the best college football team to not get to play for a title, Sucks that is was due to one of the worst calls in history.

The other team i think got robbed is Auburn in 04. Williams and Brown at rb, Carlos Rogers, Jason Campbell, Ben Grubbs, Jay Ratliff, Aromashodu. That team had it all and i know im missing a couple big names too.

edit: Marcus McNeill was on that team too!

Nebraska did play for the national title in 1983.

Yeah, 2005 USC was a really good one. I remember the ESPN special BEFORE the Rose Bowl that year that was a count down of the greatest teams of all time. The premise around the show was the question of where the 2005 USC Trojans would fit into the equation.

My guess was a 38-35 Texas win, which turned out to be pretty close in one of the best games ever.

PS. I'm from Atlanta, wife is an Aggie....I have no love or connection to UT.

This is old stompin' grounds for me. I used to be over here a lot back in the beginning, which is how I got the "founding member" image you see below.

I just don't spend much time over here any more. Just don't have time to do AUC and tBB.

The ninety four Penn St. That didn't get to play for it all. Would have been an interesting game between them and Neb.

How is going undefeated "not getting it done"? They got it done. So did Nebraska. They never got to play. Damn shame.

The voice of reason and man with all the stats to back it up. Definitely one of the better posters from any fan base. Not bad for a Cam loving Aub!

It would probably have helped if they were ever eligible to play college basketball in the first place.

  • If we're venturing out of college football, I can't believe no one has mentioned the 2007 Patriots.

They won 18 straight games, including 16-0 in the regular season, before losing the Super Bowl.

The Braves had a couple too. The 1996 Brave that went up 2-0 on the road against the Yankees. The 1993 Braves that won 104 games, going 55-19 down the stretch, but then lost in the NLCS.

Then the monsters from Space Jam should be on this list. They were clearly one of the best basketball teams ever. And they won just as many games as the "Fab Five."

He did have a supporting cast too. Not as good as Pippen, Rodman, and Kucok... but still a solid group.
