Best Team That Didn't Get It Done

Then the monsters from Space Jam should be on this list. They were clearly one of the best basketball teams ever. And they won just as many games as the "Fab Five."

They were called the Monstars. Show some respect.

    Lawd today!

  • Little homerism on this one...

    1983 Auburn.

Lost the 2nd game of the year to Texas (who finished the regular season #2 at 11-0).

But then won 10 straight, 6 of which were over...

    #17 Florida State
    #5 Florida
    #7 Maryland
    #4 Georgia
    #19 Alabama
    #8 Michigan

The only loss was to Texas, who later lost to Georgia, who Auburn had beaten. Miami also finished 11-1...only loss coming to Florida, who Auburn had beaten.

Going into the bowls, Auburn was #3. #1 Nebraska lost and #2 Texas lost...Auburn should have moved up, but the voters fell for the Miami pre-game sales pitch that if they beat Nebraska in the Orange Bowl they should be national champs....so they jumped from #5 to #1.

23 NFL draft picks from that roster, including four running backs: Bo Jackson, Brent Fullwood, Tim Jessie, and Tommie Agee.

  • As an ole kiss fan I kills me to say this. But the 04 auburn team coached by Tubbs. Jason Campbell, Ronnie brown, Cadillac Williams, Ben Obimonu, devin Aramashodu, cooper Wallace, courtney taylor,Ben Grubbs, Carlos Rodgers.
team was stacked with future NFL players. People said USC and Ok were better. Idk???

Nebraska did play for the national title in 1983.

I guess I did a bad job on this.

I meant the 82 huskers that were robbed of the chance to play for a title in early 83 because penn state stole a game from them. Worst call ever. See link

The 83 huskers was a cool team too. LOST going for the win, when Osborne new a tie would have given him the title. Osborne wanted the win though. Nebraska easily could have gone back to back. Osborne took way to much heat over the next 10 years for not winning the big game.

  • Yes...give Osborne credit for playing it ballzout...the list of coaches that would have gone for the tie is endless....I know SOS would have done the same tho

Y'all got one back by not having to play us in 1994.

Just a tip, if you're the best team in the country you shouldn't leave it up to the refs.

Funny, that's not what all the PSU fans were saying this year after the N vs PSU game.

And also I don't get how lions fans bring up 94 to huskers fans all the time. We didn't do that to you. Peterno made the classy move pulling his starters and got screwed for it. It sucks but move on.

PS. Nebraska won a title with a fricking back up qb that year. It's not like we "got away with one" or anything. That was a grind of a year for that team.

  • Not the best, but 09 Florida deserves to be mentioned

We had won 22 games in a row and just got clobbered by Bama that year, that was a loaded football team. There's some quality NFL talent on that team.

    QB Tim Tebow
    OL Maurkice Pouncey
    OL Mike Pouncey
    DE Carlos Dunlap
    DE Jermaine Cunningham
    FS Major Wright
    CB Joe Haden
    CB Janoris Jenkins
    LB Brandon Spikes
    TE Aaron Hernandez

I think the 2006 Dallas Mavericks should be up there as well, they were up 2-0 on the Miami Heat, and were leading game 3 in the final 5-6 minutes and blew the lead.

Win they game they go up 3-0 and likely take the series, but they blew the lead and the Heat went on to win 4 in a row.

USC has been metioned too...why didn't you bring up their eligibility? Because technically they didn't win anything either...

You can't deny either of those teams weren't great.

But PSU fans/players/coaches made the bad call against Nebraska in '82? We didn't exactly "do that to you," if you want to get specific.

Not sure why you're telling us to move on. Usually '94 is brought up in response to Nebraska fans who complain about '82.

You do realize whoever won that game would have ended up with the national title right? It was our only loss of the year. In 94 you guys didn't have any games stolen, you went undefeated, you beat everyone that was on your schedule and every coach says that's all he can ask you to do.

Now all we need is to talk about buffalo losing 4 straight Super Bowls and my 3 favorite pro teams will have been mentioned itt

Funny, because NU keeps bitching about 82. That sucks you lost, move on bud.

Nebraska received the title with a backup QB. Y'all didn't have to play arguably the best team in the nation in your bowl game. That's a pretty darn good break for a team that had to "grind it out" that season.

Right...so it essentially boils down to the same thing - having a MNC stolen. I guess it's somehow better for PSU not having had a game stolen?
