CFB is cyclical, and the SEC hasn't done one damn thing that hasn't been done before by others, no one matches what the BIG-10 has done - if you must obsess with that conference thing, not in combined championships (every member has won one), Heisman Trophy winners, Pro Football HOFers...etc....

    Truth.

All time is a better list. Plus I didnt know Joe Walsh was drawing x's and o's between sets with the Eagles.

    College last 30 years

1, Saban 2. Diddy 3. Jimmy Johnson 4. Tom Ozborn 5. Ole Ball Coach. 6. Urb 7. Joe Pa 8. Carroll 9. Eddie Robinson (why not) 10. Stoops.

Wow you put Spurrier over Bowden? Ask Spurrier how many games he won in Tallahassee.

He already explained that Bowden is "Diddy", or #2.

  • I stand corrected. Honestly I'm not sure either should be top 5

  • If you're going to be throwing out coaches of other sports, I'm going to add the greatest Baseball Coach in college history...Rod Dedeaux.

11 National Championships in Baseball - USC has 12 in all.

A USC alumnus, he refused a salary, earning a nominal $1 per year. Greatness in coaching (at the college level) goes well beyond simply winning, it's the heart and love for the program as well. Like Bear Bryant.

He took Florida from a nobody to a perennial powerhouse. He is doing the same thing at SC. They were a 6-8 win team for years. Two years ago he took them to the SEC Champ game and last year got 11 wins. They are definitely on the upswing. Should compete for the SEC east again. Spurrier has turned two programs into contenders. It took him a lot longer at SC than Florida but I think he is on the right path.

Doing well and getting a program on the right path doesn't put you on this list. He did great at Florida, but not great enough to be top 10 IMO. South Carolina isn't a contender on the national scene yet. Maybe Spurrier will get them there, but he hasn't even been to a BCS bowl there.

Not to mention he is 2-4 in bowl games at SC.

Only see two lists following the OPs criteria and he is in both of them so not sure what you're looking at.

No flame but what has he exactly accomplished at SCAR?

just read up on our previous history, and you will realize that what Spurrier is doing at South Carolina is pretty special (especially in a period where the SEC has won 6 straight NC's)

Worse drama queen coach I have ever seen, a squabbling, big mouthed old woman...someone tape his mouth shut.

    Coaching great? No.

    Once good, not great.

I can remember when the SEC sucked....except for Alabama. It's always been just Alabama till recently - history wise. The rest of the contenders were simply regional powers.

Woman, who actually reads before speaking.

I was at USC in 1970, and I know your history -amazing. One of my great football moments, seeing Bear Bryant across the field in the Coliseum.

    He's learning.

When you consider he's 25 years younger than Spurrier he has some time to mature. Coaching under Pat Haden as AD has really taught him some composure and considering Tim Tessalone has been the SID for a long time he has learned some media savvy.

Agreed...while he was a coach in the SEC, different guy at USC. What happened in Tennessee would never happen at USC, the grey hairs that make up our very generous alumni/booster base, would stroke out.

It must be something in the air down there...or maybe it's just grown men going by the ridiculous diminutive form of their proper name. What is it with "Bobby" "Jimbo" "Jimmy" ?? And all the hen cackling and public bickering and sideshows - on SEC Media Days, no less.

I love the South, and a ton of the customs and regional pride, but the gossiping and public ranting by grown men is not very manly or flattering. It's like one big, bad Tennessee Williams soap opera.
