CORNELIUS, N.C.- The Charlotte Nike Football Training Camp was a high-quality affair on Sunday. Here's a quick look at the standouts.

Yessir. I'm loving that kid, but I hope he turns out better than most of the other DL from North Fulton.

  • A couple others I think worth noting:

WR Ryan Switzer (UNC commit) -- Odds rarely favor a kid with his measurables making a top-10 list. But he was fantastic. Superb quickness, corralled everything thrown his way. Lawrence was the only DB I saw who could hang with him.

DL Antonio Riles -- Riles is going to grow into an interior D-lineman, in my estimation. But he has the chance to develop into a nice up-the-field pass rusher with desired size.

RB Derrell Scott -- 2014 prospect doesn't have the upper body bulk you necessarily covet from an every-down back ... yet. But he's a smooth, fluid runner with good hands, balance and sufficient quickness and speed. He and UNC RB pledge Khris Francis were the best overall backs on the day, while '14 Elijah Hood also turned heads with his linear speed for someone his size.

I tweeted out that Lawson was my No. 1 for the day ... but the guy I couldn't quit talking about was Bryant. His closing speed is dynamic.

So what did you like about Lawson?

He is what his film shows. High-motor rusher off the edge, muscularly refined, functional blend of superlative quickness and strength. The only "knock" on the kid is he's 6-3 instead of 6-5 -- which isn't a knock, per se.

Lawson owned a very high quality 2014 left tackle (Bentley Spain), although it merits noting that one-on-one drills in camp settings inherently favor defensive ends.

  • Ryan Switzer has proved it over and over again he is among the elite in the nation...when is he given a 4th star?? What else does he have to prove?

  • Thanks for the report Paul! Really liked the reviews on TT and BR, hopefully LB will head to Athens as well.

He's a high three star- 89- we think that's appropriate. It's not an insult to be ranked that high.
