  • Very good group of 2014 prospects there today, especially at receiver.

  • I continue to be impressed by 2014 slot WR/PR Shawun Lurry. Very, very quick in and out of cuts. Terrific COD, makes everything look smooth and easy at the position. Very natural adjustment to the ball.

  • Wow Trevor Darling is huge if he sheds some baby fat and continues to grow he could one of the top Tackle prospects in the country next year.

  • Excited about Darling! Hopefully he sticks with us.

There are a lot of possible Miami commits on this list. Hopefully we land these kids!

  • Does Kelvin Taylor warrant any consideration for an upgrade in his ranking as a result of his performance today?

    STLGator84

  • what about jermaine grace from miramar, did he do well or anybody from miramar like RB's alex lee and cameron rigby?

Not solely off of a camp performance for me. He has been ascending in our rankings, and I do expect that to continue.

If there is a better RB body type in the class, I've yet to see. A couple close, but Taylor is so powerfully compact with very, very good feet.

  • Gerry, how did Sojourn Shelton look? Everyone seems to rag on him but then he goes win the MVP at this event, what's going on?

This could be the case. He's not your 6-7 franchise rating candidate type, but certainly showed a lot of good things today, particularly pass blocking, which typically is the most challenging thing for a young offensive lineman.

Have to go look through my notes, but I can't recall anyone from Miramar standing out.

  • What about Deeb? Is he good enough LB to play at PSU?

    He keeping the 84 rankings?

    Thanks JC.

I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

Shelton is an excellent football player. He's a player at the Division I level for sure. Because of his size/speed, etc.,- he does not project as high as the guys rated four and five stars, so he's a three star prospect. That's just what he is regardless of performance in camps or on the field because rankings are a projection and based on his vitals, he doesn't project as high as others.

Rosters for the most part are made up of two-star (average) players with the three-star (above average), four-star (excellent) and five-star (superior) players few and far between.

  • I'm confused, how could Kelvin Taylor win overall MVP of the entire camp when he wasn't even the RB group MVP

    How does that work?

'Cause he's a stud, and fills out a form-fitting shirt as well as anybody I've ever seen (I know, TSG).

How can a kid be defensive backs MVP at a major South Florida camp event and not make said camp's top 10 list?

There wasn't an award given by the coaching staff for overall MVP.

Our content item is the top 10 prospects at the event.

    Two completely different things.

Because the 10 guys we put on the list are all better prospects than Shelton.

ahh gotcha so the MVP awards were done by the camp, your top 10 was by you

so it looks as if you disagreed on some of their MVP awards

Shelton is always good in this, and 7-on-7 settings. He is quick, has quality COD and is seemingly always attached to his man. He reacts well.

Where his body goes physically is going to be huge for him IMO - and as he adds to the frame - does he retain the quickness. More than likely his determining factor considering he can't change his height.

    O Linemen are a must.

A good O Line gives you a shot no matter what. A bad O Line and it doesn't matter what else you have, you're screwed.

    We need these guys.
