V for Vendetta is a strong one, as is Count of Monte Cristo.
Count of Monte Cristo is a pretty darn good movie, IMO. It is a pretty good iteration of Dumas' novel. I think Wolpert did well in making what would be a normally boring stretch of the script into something actually worth watching, similar to Shawshank Redemption. It's more of a "fun" movie than all of the others mentioned, but I enjoyed it, probably moreso because of the book.
V for Vendetta is a major political and social job. I agree with all points of the movie and the character execution was good, even if Natalie Portman had to be a baldie. The finale was an excellent example of martyrdom.
