Bielema Can Win At Arkansas

  • buckeye_mikey69 said...

This move doesn't make sense for a lot of reasons. It's a major demotion for Bielema. He's going from a good BCS school to a mid major program at the bottom of its conference. To those saying he wants to play with the big boys in the SEC, you couldn't be any more dense and out of touch with reality. The fact is that Bielema had an offseason situation where 6 of his coaches left the team. He also fired his offensive line coach midseason. He's had back to back Rose Bowl losses and prior to that, couldn't get it done in the postseason in mid-major bowls. The ongoing rumor is that he's not easy to get along with either. My guess is that people in Madison don't like him too much. Couple that with a mediocre 8-5 season and the writing on the wall with Ohio State making him their bitch, on the field and off (especially with recruiting practices), and it's no surprise that he's ready to give himself a fresh start while keeping his image intact for being a "high profile" head coach before Ohio State and M*chigan regain their glory (afterall, three straight Rose Bowl appearances look impressive, as do 3 straight Big Ten titles, even if they come with the asterisk *during down years for both Ohio State and M^chigan*. My guess is that Bret rides his reputation into Fayetteville with high hopes, gets his ass stomped in both recruiting and on game day, which will get delusional SEC homers saying "Even the 'best' Big Ten coach can't hang in the SEC". If he's successful, you'll beat your chests and say "We can take any Big Ten coach we want because we're the SEC." Regardless of what happens, nobody in our conference liked Bret Bielema. We're happy to see him go. He was a douche bag in every essence of the word. He fits right in with your conference.

This post is just plain ignorant. First, Arkansas is one of the Nation's Top 25 programs historically. Bret Bielema inherited a program that had an alltime winning percentage if 56%. He has won 74% if his games there. Like it or not he won the same number of Big Ten titles as Alvarez. Was the Big Ten down? Who can say for sure. He followed a very good coach in Alvarez and maintained their success with no drop off.

  • Arkansas will turn into a 90% run first offense. Will be interesting if he can maintain the OL he had going for him at Wisconsin and get the RBs.

That is complete spin. And horrible spin at that.

Bielema inherited a program that won 3 Rose Bowls and had an 8-3 bowl record. Bielema never won a BCS game and was 2-4 in bowls.

Bielema went 23-1 against Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, and Purdue and 16-18 against everybody else.

Citing the Big Ten titles is beyond moronic as Wisconsin was the 6th best team in the Big Ten this year with 5 losses.

Wisconsin's program got worse under Bielema, not better.

  • Wisc went from being "the other B1G team that I can root for", to one of the ones I longed to beat every year. BB is kinda whiny and kinda bitchy. I don't think he'll last long in the SECw.

On another note, ESPN reported - on their crawl - that Alvarez wants to coach the team in the Rose Bowl.

    Yeah, I said it.

I can't believe that I am even responding to this garbage. You speak as if it is a realistic expectation for Wisconsin to beat tOSU, PSU, it Michigan with regularity. That is down right idiotic. What Alvarez did at Wisconsin was amazing. Especially his dominance of Jim Tressell. However I could say that he won Rose Bowls when the Pac 12 was down but that would be kin to the rhethoric that you are spewing. So how did Wisconsin get worse? Nobody has made the case for then being ”better” only that the status of Wisconsin was maintained. What did he not accomplish that he should have in his time as head coach. I'll hang up and listen.

  • Wasn't a fan of Bielema in general, but I do find this hire interesting. I'm intrigued to see how he does.

Wisconsin was no longer competitive in the B1G outside of the bottom feeder programs under Bielema.

His ego is bigger than almost anyone in that league. Just ask him.

  • Not flaming here, serious question. Arky is a top 25 program historically based off what? Do they have a couple of NCs I don't know about? Again not trying to flame, I just have no idea about the Hawg history.

You do realize that Bilema ran up the score against a lot of cupcakes and weak teams. Like the Minnesota and Nebraska games for instance

    Exactly.

Again, the Rose Bowl stat is a joke. Not like Bielema won one any way.

Let's also not forget that the Big Ten was a toughter conference when Alvarez was at the helm.

Not in anyway defending that asshat bert, but you are way off base. not surprising based on you career here.

Give me a fucking break with this not competitive crap. The only thing you can say is that because of bubba's poor in game coaching we lost a lot of close games we probably could have and should have won.

I guess it depends on your definition of competitive.

16-18 is not exactly stellar, imo. Neither is 2-4 in bowl games.

  • Nobody is saying that he is going to pass Bama or Lsu but its not crazy to think that he could go 9-3 or 10-2 some years and be in the conversation for the SECw title. Also, I always liked the Arkansas/Texas A&M game and this makes it interesting again.

    the reason was the SEC...
the weather (leaving Wisconsin & the Big in general) was cited as a mere bonus.

The reason was the money and getting a fresh start. Playing in that conference had nothing to do with it. Citable douchebaggish speculation runs rampant in some.
