What conservative positions does this guy have? He is pro-union, pro-Obama, pro-big government. He was the worst Republican ever.

I don't think you understand. Someone doesn't have to be conservative to be a Republican.

Similarly, one doesn't have to be liberal to be a Democrat. Welcome to the wonderful world of "Blue Dogs."

You know, I honestly hope Republican leadership thinks exactly like you do, it'll be fun to see the entire party go down in flames.

Weirdly enough, there are options to increase Republican popularity with Hispanics that don't rely on ridiculous stereotypes.

    1) Support of living wage laws. 2) Anti-discrimination platform. 3) Allowing Bush tax cuts to expire for the highest income brackets.

The Hispanic electorate is surprisingly socially conservative, so if the Republican party could even attempt to put together an economic plan that didn't screw over the lower classes, they'd win a lot of support - but apparently that's too much to ask.

Living wages drive up prices and so ultimately there effect is nothing.

What discrimination? You mean the supposed rampant discrimination that doesn't exist, but the libtards pretend does so they can relive their heyday of the 60s.

And exactly...become democrats. I guess we should just adopt the Keynesian outlook on economics as a party platform. Maybe we could get nominate Pelosi in 2016.

Then why be a Republican? The whole liberal Republicans, Blue dog democrats thing has passed, The parties are pretty much divided on ideological lines these days.

Also, I'd love it if you provided support for claims like "Living wages drive up prices and so ultimately there effect is nothing." In the meantime, I'll provide support for why this claim is wrong.

As for discrimination, you're defending the party whose supporters threw peanuts at a black camerawoman at the RNC while calling her an animal. You know what a reasonable party would have done after that incident? They would have sent a speaker up on stage to immediately condemn the actions and make it clear that such idiotic behavior would not be tolerated. Instead, the organizers waited until the media got a hold of the story before making any comment whatsoever about the incident.

Walmart Minimum Wage Of $12 Wouldn't Drive Up Prices, Says Study

WASHINGTON- If Walmart were to pay its employees a minimum of $12 an hour, what would that wage baseline do to the retail behemoths famously low prices? According to a new study, probably not much.

Ok, this is taking "know-nothing" to a whole new level.

If nothing ever happened, why were two attendees escorted out by police?

If nothing ever happened, why did the organizers acknowledge that what happened was a terrible thing?

I just don't see it happening. And it would be easier for the organizers to separate themselves from the actions than argue against their validity. Trying to o so would have become the focal point of the convention. The attendees could have been escorted out for any number of reasons, they may have been drunk and called he a b**** and she just made all this up.

No. We are already being overrun with Spanish we don't need to convert the current population as well. The only people that need to learn anything are the ones who decide to move here. If you move to a country you respect it's customs. "When in Rome"...we have been more than generous in turning a blind eye to the complete disregard that Latin immigrants have for this country. They can wave their Mexican flags all they want to, but they could at least show us the respect of speaking in our language when addressing us. A lot of other countries wouldn't put up with this ****.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. There is no spin. Bond markets don't rally for shits and giggles man. There are reasons for this.

You think investors do not spin? You think Analysts do not speculate? Have you ever heard of information assymmetry?

    These guys have:

    Enron, WorldCom, Lehman Bros......

Wonder why investors are selling right now? Because as of January 1 - they are going to face a 39% tax hike on dividens. Wait till you see 4th qtr numbers....

but keep reading Bloomberg's message "Move along people, all is fine, nothing to see here"

Meanwhile - this is what's going on at a Myraid of firms

Did you look at the study or just read the article? The study says that a $12 starting wage only results in an 11% increase in labor cost. That is ridiculously low. Walmart typically hires at minimum wage or slightly above(not to mention the temporary workers they use). To go from a starting wage of $8 to $12 is a 50% increase. Where that study came up with 11% is beyond me. They also put no assumption that if that is the starting wage is raised, it is going to drive up longer term employees pay as well.

  • Just think about it, if the starting wage is increased approx 50% it doesn't take a genius to figure out that it destroys their discounter model.

The argument assumes that Wal-Mart would do what every other business would do and pass the vast majority of those costs on to customers. It's not like Wal-Mart is going to absorb that entire "50%" wage increase and just take that hit. It also doesn't destroy the discounter model when the average yearly impact on a consumer is only $12.49.

Also, the 11% is because not every WalMart worker is paid $8/hour right now - some are paid $9, $10, $11, $12, etc. It would take an 11% payroll increase to raise everyone making less than $12/hr. up to $12/hr.

That doesn't take into account that you can't pay all employees the same. They won't feel valued. If you've worked at Walmart 5 years and currently make $12 an hour, and now all new hires get paid the same you're going to be pissed.

I wrote a 14 page paper about Wal-Mart my Senior year. The reason they are successful is that they squeze every penny out of every transaction. If you mandate a massive ineffeciency to them, it would destroy what has made them successful. That's why they have fought tooth and nail to keep the unions out.

Wal-Mart already deals with "mandated inefficiency" in the form of minimum wage, and they're doing fine. Every corporation operating in the United States makes the conscious choice to operate under U.S. law. It's not like Wal-Mart suddenly won't be profitable if something like this were implemented. If the conditions under which Wal-Mart operates changes (as they do all the time when laws change and cases are decided) then it's up to Wal-Mart to adapt to the changing situation. The status quo is not some sacred ideal that should never be changed.
