    A sad slate of Games

2012 ranking of Big Ten OOC opponents. One of the reasons the Big Ten needs to go to a Nine conference game schedule.

Or we could all just schedule better. This is not rocket science and the problem is not limited to the B10. Also, most of the MAC teams are instate for certain B10 teams. Scheduling them on a semi-regular basis is done for political and local economic reasons. If the B10 goes to 9 conference games, most of those MAC games will not go away. It is games like UM-Alabama or OSU-Texas that will become harder to schedule. The bottom line is that if you want better games email your AD and demand them. I'm pretty sure no one put a gun to his head and forced him to schedule Southern Miss, Arkansas State and Idaho State with three out of your four OOC games this season.

This. Only problem is, or has been, finding quality programs that will schedule a home and home with another OOC powerhouse (thanks, and props to tOSU). Our AD came out and said it, and the silence was deafening.

Now, we have some pretty good ones lined up in the future, the fans would sure like more though...

*Note: I think USC will always schedule Hawaii...for both the players and the fans. Last trip the school treated the players to the max the NCAA would allow - one day after the game I think, to enjoy and relax before heading home...it was also a treat for the senior members of the Trojan Marching Band, who filmed a commercial out there. We tend to schedule a home and home with them once every four years at least, as a travel treat and the extra game.

Sorry, but Universities want that Home crowd money, so if they aren't forced into playing more than 1 BCS team a year, they usually wont. The Pac 12 does it right. 9 conference games, 1 Big OOC, and a Championship game.

Also if your school cant schedule 1 big OOC game with 9 conference games, then your AD sucks.

ND does it. Michigan does it. You do it. You mentioned tOSU. It's not a matter of being able to do it. It's a matter of will.

There's no magic to the number 9. Based on your logic, 10 would be better than 9. And 11 would be better than 10. Sorry, but some of us fans want to see variety and we want the flexibility to play top teams from other conferences. Adding more conference games reduces that flexibility.

Of course 11 would be better than 9 but No university would go for that, to lose all that money. You still have 3 weeks to play a top team from another conference, so the flexibility argument doesn't fly.

Oh, I know, you're preaching to the choir here...I gave tOSU as an example because it was fairly recent. The TV viewership was top 2 in ESPN regular season history. So....CFB fans as a whole, like to see these match ups.

What are you talking about? 11 would be a disaster. It would be the same schedule every year except for one game and that game almost certainly would be against a non-BCS team. I'm sorry your AD schedules lousy opponents for you, but the rest of us shouldn't be forced to suffer as a result.

So we should be forced to sit through Boring OOC games for every other team in the NCAA, ok Then.

You can do whatever you want. Go to a movie. Play with your kids. Read a book. Our non-conference slate this year includes games against Notre Dame, Alabama and Air Force. If you don't want to watch them, don't.

And, again, the argument that teams like Nebraska can't upgrade their OOC schedules unless someone forces them at gunpoint is absurd. Michigan State plays both BSU and Notre Dame this year. NW plays three BCS OOC opponents (Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Boston College). Penn State just played a home-home series with Alabama and OSU is just coming off home-home series with UT, USC and Miami. This is a self-created problem. Nebraska is an elite program and has tremendous appeal as an opponent. You have no excuse for not scheduling better. Just like Wisconsin has no excuse. If MSU and NW can put together interesting OOC schedules, so can Nebraska. You just choose not to.

Msu vs Boise and ND a good Non confernce schedule
    roflmao
    GTFO with that crap.

Damn go read my earlier posts. Just because Michigan schedules 1 good year, doesn't mean every team does.

Also GTFO with that OSU schedules, they had 1 good year of Non conference schedules in the past 4 years in 2011.

Are you really laughing at Boise St being a solid OOC team to play?

Do we really need to compare Boise St and Nebraska's last 10 years of BCS victories against OOC teams or in BCS bowls for that matter?

I would think with your complaints of a boring OOC schedule that Boise St and Notre Dame would be much more appealing. Michigan St also has a home and home coming up with Bama in the near future as well.

Says the guy whose schedule is loaded up with killer opponents such as Idaho State, Arkansas State and Southern Miss.

State also has a series with Oregon in '14 and '15, with USF coming to EL next year to balance a road trip to ND. There should be 2 "AQ Conf." caliber team on State's schedule for the foreseeable future.

MSU and UM are the only 2 Big 10 schools with decent OOC schedules. Heck, only Central Michigan didn't go to a bowl in 2011 out of the OOC opponents for MSU, and even UM's game against FCS UMass is excusable because they've got a neutral site game vs. Bama and a road game vs. ND.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • This sucks. I was really hoping to get to travel out west to experience a college football game or two out there. This would've been a great series. Oh well. Back to the normal, boring cupcake OOC games.
