  • OG: Kyle Kalis, Ohio State
    CB: Terry Richardson, Ohio State

    Might want to correct those.

  • Still really wish Michigan had been able to snag Voltz (or make a run at him before he enrolled at Wisconsin and after all their coaches left). That kid's gonna be a mauler.

  • All Big Ten Team Score:
Michigan: 5 offense and 5 defense
Ohio: 2 offense and 5 defense

Who really deserves that top class spot? ;)

  • Kind of looking forward to watching Terry Richardson cover Burbridge for 4 years.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Countess and Floyd have it taken care of this year, Countess the next 2 years after that.

When Diggs commits, you'll lose one and well gain one, back to status quo. Ha.

    Or Arnett for that matter.

  • Richardson still has to pass Avery, Carter, Taylor, and Hollowell. Also by that time, Pipkens, Wormley, Strobel, Godin, Ojemudia, Clark, Ryan, Black... will be rushing the QB.

    Edit: meant to quote Rocky.

Terry may well prove me wrong, but I would be surprised if he was ever a starting corner at Michigan. Countess is going to be starting from here on out, and Michigan is going to be hard after corners again in this 2013 class. I suspect Michigan will want a bigger corner beside Countess and I think Terry's talents may be best suited for the slot. JMO.

Athletic ability agreed. I like a 5th year senior matched up against a true freshman though.

At this point, all those are are HS kids with stars next to their name. They could prove their worth, or go the way of William Campbell. That's why they don't award Big 10 titles based on how many stars your team has on paper . . .

Not saying they do, but you yourself talk about needing stars to compete . . .

Edit: Avery, Clark, Black, Ryan have all seen time on the field, Avery with the game sealing pick vs tOSU, Clark with a INT in the BCS Sugar Bowl, Ryan produced big all year as Freshman. The others, outside of the incoming Freshmen, have seen the field also.

That's in reference to "4-star talent" on the field, not in terms of recruiting. You need "4-star quality" athletes to compete; whether or not a recruiting service is able to label them such is immaterial. That you don't know till they've been on campus a few years, which is why you have to look at the program as a whole rather than just 1 class. The year MSU brought in their "best class since 2001" the Spartans went 6-7.

I do agree that a 4-star on signing day is more likely to actually play like a "4-star" than someone labeled a "2-star", but that's not a guarantee that they're going to pan out (and, FWIW, MSU didn't bring in many 2-stars, 2 at most by the varying recruiting services). I think that highly rated recruiting classes work out better than lower-rated ones, but I just watched top 10-15 rated Michigan classes get beat on and the same things happen at FSU, ND and Texas. UGA has recruited in the top 10 every year since 2002 (till this year I believe), and they went 6-7 in '10.

We'll know how good UM's class is in 2014 at the earliest.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Guarantee that all 5 of those HS kids mentioned do not go the way of Will Campbell, who - prior this year - didn't have the benefit of 3 excellent DL line coaches available.

And you watched those Top 10-15 ranked classes with some fairly shoddy defensive coaching get beat on. There is no guarantee that talent at the high school level sans solid to superior coaching at the college level will realize its potential. If you wish to call a spade a spade, by all means - call it a spade.

That being said, odds are that the majority of them WILL pan out. As a matter of fact, it was myself and SuperStudSteve who had a debate about this several years ago on the GoBlueWolverine message board. I was the one who personally listed 4/5* recruits from various positions, tracked their progress, and examined their coaching.

Regardless, point remains that championships are not awarded on paper.

That top 10-15 rated Michigan teams were coached by 2 star coaches in RichRod and Gerg. Look what happened when they were coached by 4 star (trying to be humble ;)) coaches this year.

Actually, look at Michigan defense this year, a Walk-on Safety, a Walk-on DT, and mainly 3 stars in other positions. I will check and edit it when I get home. Throw a better athlete in there with the quality coaching and you would expect an improvement.

  • Even though tOSU is our most hated rival, its good to see both UM and tOSU with 10 of the 11 all defensive team to bring The Game to where it should be. We all know stars dont matter in the long run, but DEFENSE does win championships!
