It allows you to download tweaks and apps not approved by apple. For instance,my complete interface is changed. Lock screen,app placement, my signal bars is a Ghostbusters symbol. My 3G symbol is a Longhorn etc. I can have Android displays and lock screens too. It's tight. Kenny Powers sounds when I charge/unlock my phone,the ability to change display fonts and keyboard colors. The possibilities are endless.

You can get free apps, better versions of the stock apps (biteSMS), the ability to customize the look of your device, custom sounds, etc. I'm a big fan of computers/technology/iPhones so this kind of stuff excites the hell outta me!
