Bill Maher with dumbest quote of the new year?

  • AlwaysMore said...

The best part is, Mitt Romney said this four months ago leading up to the New Hampshire primary.

    Here's the full quote:

"While I was [Massachusetts] governor, 85 percent of the people on a form of welfare assistance in my state had no work requirement. And I wanted to increase the work requirement. I said, for instance, that even if you have a child 2 years of age, you need to go to work. And people said, well that’s heartless. And I said no, no, I’m willing to spend more giving day care to allow those parents to go back to work. It will cost the state more, providing that day care. But I want the individuals to have the dignity of work."

So apparently being a stay at home mom is not dignified work according to Mr. Romney.

    And...AlwaysMore wins the thread.

  • What Romney said is essentially the same thing Clinton wanted years ago.

Increased childcare resources and a reduction in the length of time welfare recipents were getting funds.

Don't working moms "work" on the weekend, then, too?

Sure do. I am glad my mom was there, my dad wasn't very good at being a mom. He was kickass dad though.

I mean, so then vacation days and holidays are the same for working mothers than non-working mothers, right? I don't get the point of bringing up vacation and holidays for working mothers. Aren't they with/taking care of their children on these days anyway?

So in this scenario does the dad help out or not? I know stay at home moms who hand the dad the kids as soon as they cross the threshold of their crib.

"No one is denying that being a mother is a tough job; I remember I was a handful," he said. "But you know there is a big difference between being a mother, and that tough job, and getting your ass out the door at 7 a.m. when it's cold, having to deal with the boss, being in a workplace, or even if you're unhappy you can't show it for eight hours."

You could write a paper on how much fail is in that quote.

I honestly don't like saying bad things about others. But, Maher is an idiot and a jerk.

I did housework and laundry. Never yard work, though. I also drove the six-year-old to her soccer camp daily, and me and the three-year-old hung out and ate ice cream.

I'd still do it over working an 8-5, even with your added stipulations.

This means Bo Knows needs to get his shit together and knock her up already lol

Interesting you use context in Maher's defense and develop your own context in critique of Romney.

I gave the entire quote and provided the context in what is was made. The OP did not mention that Mahar was responding to the criticism of Ann Romney and her being a stay at home mom.

If you have further context in which the Romney quote was made, pray tell enlighten me.

You said Romney doesn't consider being a stay at home parent dignified. That's your presumptive context.

If someone more likely to have your political support said he/she would rather spend more for people to have jobs and not have to live off the government, you'd probably have a different opinion.

Drop all responsibilities, no. Get help, yes.

As I said earlier, when I stayed home with the kids, I worked more and longer than when I was at "work".

Well its either that being a stay at home mom is not work, or being a stay at home mom is not as dignified as work. What other direction can you take his quote?

And he said he wanted to spend more on childcare, just so these people would get out of the house. He claims it would lose money for the government, but apparently add dignity to these people. So he not only wants to waste money on childcare for people, but wants to teach them a valuable life lesson that he chose not to have his wife have to undergo.

Or it's that work is dignifying and he would have likes to afford less fortunate parents that opportunity, even if it cost more than welfare. That's what that quote says. You chose to apply the aforementioned negative context to that quote. I won't pretend to know why, I just thought it was interesting going beyond that statement was ok, but in Maher's case you chose to take a stand.
