  • Me and GB finally got around to watching this tonight. I thought it was decent but not great. Overrated as a mug imo.

    What'd the 247 Crew think?

Overrated. The only reason I heard so much about it was because of the Portman/Kunis scene.

  • Thought it was awesome. I really like Darren Aronofsky and this was no exception. Maybe it didn't translate as well to the small screen, but in the theatre, the aura and mood of the film was great. I thought Natalie Portman was incredible. He's a dark SOB. I would recommend Pi, Requiem for a Dream, and The Wrestler as well. Pi is in my top 5, maybe top 3.

  • I liked it a lot but I agree it probably was overrated. Portman had an amazing performance though. I mean lights out.

No love for the Fountain or have you just not seen it? That's a great movie as well, though it's not very accessible to the average joe.

I like Aranofsky to but this was not his best. The Wrestler was freaking great though.

I like the Fountain but not as much as some of his other films. Still pretty good though.

  • Not the movie's fault, but I feel like I would've liked it more if it was one of those movies that I pluck out of obscurity (straight-to-DVD or something) instead of one of these mega-hyped movies.

GB said one of her problems with it was that it was kind of predictable in a Lifetime-movie kinda way. The drugging, the stage-mom, the pervert teacher, etc.

We still have to see that, too. I can guarantee I will like it more just because it revolves around wrestling instead of ballet.

Yea I'm in the minority but I think it's his best movie he's done. There are three good ways to interpret it, which is probably why I like it so much.

Haven't had a chance to see it yet. Throwing it on the queue as we speak.

I feel the same way about the Hangover. Good movie, but waaaay too much hype. I almost hate it because of that.

I'm with you. I actually think The Hangover is the most overrated movie of all-time.

  • Hype does tend to ruin movies. Funny how that works. I'm curious to know everyone's thoughts on Pi.

I own Pi so I do like it. It's just not something I can watch very often. It's a really good low-budget film and it definitely has Aronofsky written all over it.

I wanted to like that movie so much but i just didn't understand the flow of it all that well. I like a crazy imaginative movie as much as the next guy but that one was out there. The cinematography for that film was Grade A. I think he's a great director, the only one of his i haven't seen yet is Requiem.

I thought it was awesome. Portman alone was worth the price of admission. She was ridiculously good in that film. 2010/11 seems to be her time - she's in everything these days.

You need to see Requiem. It is in my top ten favorite movies. I swear when my daughter is old enough for some of the more explicit scenes, I am going to make her watch it to hammer home why you never shoot up.

Might want to skip the ass-to-ass part at the end.

hahaha that's the only scene of the movie i know about. Somebody on the other board was always talking about "ass to ass" and linked a video. I'll give it a look, honestly no reason why i haven't yet. just lazy. Pi looks about as out there as The Fountain. Might have to see if it's on Net Flix.
