If UVA ever takes football seriously, they could consistently compete for the coastal. I don't see what GT, UNC, or Va Tech has thst Virginia doesn't,

Get off the pocketbook. Hire a bigtime head coach. Profit.

The biggest difference is GT, UNC and VT have D1 head coaches.

And as far as getting off the pocketbook, London was paid over $2.5 million last year....that's $638,000 per win. And now they've hired a tight ends coach and Def coordinator each making $500K. Spending money isn't the issue.....it's getting value for the money spent.

Not afraid to go ValPak either.

They have the right coaching staff now...but the titles are confused

For the most part, I agree. The only question mark IMO is Fairchild.....I thought it was a bit of an odd hire.

Yea, I don't know much about him either...I think Tenuta can be good but he requires depth for his attacking style, and they barely have a front 7 much less a 2 deep. If they don't control the ball on O that D is going to be horrid.

IMO they need to look in the mirror and know they just aren't very good. Take their lumps this year and Red Shirt as many players as they can to get on the right track with depth and age...IMO they aren't winning more than 5...and I just don't see the difference in winning 2 and 5, they both suck. If you only win 2 but you shirt your entire incoming class (other than Smoke) and some kids that should have last year you have a hell of a story to sell and really have something to look forward to in 14 and beyond.

I'm just speculating, but doubting that they are selling these guys on coming in and redshirting.

The QB situation's gonna be the headliner.....the red shirt issue will be mis-handled in some way, you can guarantee that one. Dr. London will spin it every which way to Sunday why guys are or aren't red shirting etc.....just like he spun the story about Cutler prepping.

The move to put Watford at the number one is interesting. It certainly comes across as a motivational move to get Sims to work harder. I wonder how Watford's gonna feel when he's holding the clipboard. I personally don't see Lambert getting any higher than the #3.....not because of his ability but because of another reason....JMO of course.

I have a question on that, redshirting is tricky..I mean if you look at some of the top programs you often have very small 5th year class..so it doesn't guarantee success to have a full 5th year class and you might need to cut some..WF is the king of redshirting and they aren't very good..I would rather have large freshmen classes come in and burn people early...and anyone ranked in top 200 probably doesn't need redshirt unless they get injured anyway

2 years ago they had a lacrosse game followed by their spring game. About 10,000 attended the lacrosse game, around 1,500 attended the spring game. They also sold coupons for 4 tickets, 4 drinks, 4 hotdogs, to home game for $72.00 in ValPak coupon books.

What about the above makes you think the UVA admin or fans will ever take football seriously?

I never said they would. See the big "if" at the very beginning of my statement.

Not sure why you cant see we are making the samepoint.

I thought London was an under $2 mil/yr guy. Thats insane.

I was considering mentioning the quality of coaches. London's name just doesn't fit w Fedora (who I've met, and consider him a badass), Beamer, and CPJ.

Either way, its a terrible ROI. Even more shocked that he is still there

WF has looking in the mirror and they know what the are and what their reasonable expectations are, so they RS their 50-60 ranked class and are about a 500 team, but every few years they have a good season. I agree a top 250 type kid should likely play, but not always, London seems to be playing kids based on recruiting rankings and promises. If you had Reynolds back you have a 1st team ACC type player...but he's gone, he should never have played...yes that was Al, but you can look at many over the last few years that are the same, you are trading 40 plays in a year for a 5th year Sr star.

Your 09 class would have added: Reynolds, Aboushi, neither of those guys were any good as true Freshmen and should have started, those guys would be Sr leaders and All ACC or better players for you....and filling HUGE holes you have on your current team.

UVA and VT (and most programs) need to RS everyone that isn't an NFL 4 and out player, and there are very very few of those. Bama, LSU, UF, USC can do as they please because they will always be abel to rerecruit super talented players.

False, and probably the dumbest troll of the day

Football players are football players, most employers don't give two shits where they went to school.... cause they think the degree was just handed to them regardless

Just so I could work in a comment about their poor spring game attendance and them selling tickets through Valpak.

    VTSmitty

  • What exactly did he mean by this comment though?

"Most people from around here don’t do anything with their talent and he is doing big things."

There are a lot of kids from that area that do "big things" with their talent. Thats why you have D-1 coaches in the area all the time.

Plus never beat their rival, possibly play in one bowl game and lose 25-30 games in those 4 years. I agree, it's amazing anybody could flame on a school with that to offer.

So true...The school is only a tool for an education if the student wants it, if they don't they can find classes to take and stay eligible anywhere

My gosh, they hired Tom Obrien as TE coach for $650K a year, to basically try and teach London how to coach. Then if they need to dump London, they just slide Obrien into his spot. But no matter how bad they do this season, they are stuck with London because they will lose their entire 2014 recruiting class if they dump him. Wonder if Obrien will teach him not to let time run out against your rivals and save your 2 timeouts to ice their kicker on a 20 yard field goal.

If you want a education while playing football pick a better school. IMO this is how they should be ranked.

    Stanford>USC>UCLA>Vandy>Duke>Syracuse>Miami>UVA.
