    Walter Payton. He is the greatest to ever walk on the field. He was fast, strong, agile, tough, and above all had more heart than anyone besides maybe Dick Butkus. His was the offense on his team(so that doesn't work in Sanders favor as much as people want).

    He ran like a man possessed and its a shame he had to die so early.

    Well..he does have more rushing and recieving yards than BS. Touchdowns as well....BS did have other weapons around him. Everybody knew the Bears were going to run but still couldn't stop it.

    Payton also played 3 more seasons, which lead to having more rushes and receptions than Sanders..

    Sanders averaged 5.0 yards per carry compared to Paytons 4.4

    I'll give you that Walter is a better receiver out of the backfield, but imo if you are talking about actual rushing, it's Barry all the way.

    Yep, I knew that's what you were building up to and No, you still discount the fact that he played in run dominated offense. Of course his ypc would be higher since WP had more carries. They also had equal number of thousand yard seasons. Three of his thirteen seasons he didn't even reach two-hundred carries..and BS still played with other weapons around him

    I agree. The OL thing can work with Sanders vs E. Smith, but Payton didn't have the greatest of lines either and definitely didn't have half the passing game the Lions had during Barry's career.

    And Walter having more carries is not the reason his ypc is lower than Barry's. Don't you think him having less carries would actually let WP have a higher ypc average since the defense would be expecting the run less? Vice-versa with Berry.. They were run first, so wouldn't you think the defense would focus on stopping the run more than usual, more than likely resulting in Barr's ypc taking a hit? That seems logical to me shrug

    Maybe you should go back to whatever site you were on and compare stats again. That last statement makes no sense..

    This^^ and Payton only reached the 5.0 ypc mark once in his career because of that. All they did was run the ball. why that's so hard to understand is beyond me..shrug

    For those that thought that Lions were run first while Barry was there, they actually only had 1 season during his career in which they ran the ball more than they passed the ball......and that was well before the NFL became as pass happy as it is today.

    Here are just some of the seasons:

    1995 605 passes to 387 rushes
    1996 541 passes to 389 rushes
    1997 540 passes to 447 rushes

    And, even with Charlie Freakin' Batch as the starter in 1998, 489 passes to 441 rushes.

    Why would his average be higher if he had more carries ,more games played and in a run dominated offense. You discredit the other players for the sake of winning an argument.

    Payton's avg would not be higher if he had those things. I've been saying it's the other way around. I've been saying that, doesn't it seem logical that a RB who get's less carries would generally have a higher ypc, because the D isn't expecting pass as much?
