Bo Jackson is one of the greatest athletes ever

  • Easily. Hands down.

    His documentary was great.

This guy is/was my favorite athlete of all time.

I am sad after watching that documentary. He was so young and could have done so many more things in sports.

Bad shit always happens to the nicest people who don't deserve it.

He seems to be doing well though so that's good.

Agreed a great athlete. IMO it goes

    1a. Shawn Bradley
    1b. Bo Jackson

  • Love me some Bo Jackson. Barry Sanders will always be my #1 RB of all-time. Sucks he retired early but what Sanders did behind that dreadful OL was nothing short of amazing.

It's truly splitting hairs between Sanders and Jackson though so no one can say for sure who was better so it's preference really.

    What?

Bo Jackson never rushed for 1,000 yards. I think he had all the potential in the world had he not fvcked up his hip but comparing the guy to Barry Sanders is a joke.

Well you are comparing a guy that was forced to retire and a guy that retired on his own and also a dude that played 2 sports

I'm not comparing anyone to Bo. I'm just saying that comparing Bo Jackson as a RB to Barry Sanders is a stretch to say the least. Les went as far as to say that Bo and Barry were basically "splitting hairs". Ughhhh no

If you want to talk about all around athletes, Deion, Jim Brown, Calvin Johnson, Russell Wilson and others that were actually studs in two sports makes sense. You just can't compare Bo Jackson and Barry Sanders when it comes to the RB position and call it even close.

It's a talent comparison. Not a stat comparison.

Besides being amazing athlete's, both careers were cut short. One by injury, the other by choice.

They were completely different talents though. If you want to compare him as an athlete as a RB, Herschel Walker would make sense.

Indeed it does man. Marcus Lattimore is a perfect example

Yet they played the same position, and the ability to play that position is the comparison being made. Different styles or "type" of athlete is really irrelevant.

Bo Jackson averaged 5.4 yards per carry in the NFL. He never had a thousand yards because he never played more than 11 games. He had over 900 yards in the season he did play 11 games.

He also averaged almost 75 yards per game. That would average out to 1200 yards per season over a 16 game schedule

Just curious then. Why would you think that Bo Jackson had the ability to even come close to playing the position like Barry Sanders did?

I'm really not hating on Bo because I actually like him. I was a huge fan of his when I used to play basketball and football at Erwin High School and go and play McAdory. I loved seeing the trophies and photos of him. Pretty sure it was him that played at McAdory and Barkley that played at Leeds.

1,200 yards is solid but it's not HOF numbers or anything and that was in his best year. There will be four to five RB's at least that pass 1,200 yards rushing this year and it's a passing league now.

    Sorry. Bo >>>> Barry Sanders.

Remember that Bo played football as a hobby. Had he really focused one one sport or the other he would have been out of this world.. (which he already was).

Bo was a much better athlete than barry.

Because I consider over 500 carries in the NFL to be a decent enough sample size to gauge someone's ability in the NFL. Because he averaged 5.4 yards a carry. Because in three of the four seasons he played, he had the longest run from scrimmage. Because I have eyeballs and saw the runs he made and the way he ran/played the position. Because he is without question one of the 10 (being conservative) best athletes in pro sports in any of our lifetimes.

    Those reasons.

Look I'll agree with "athlete". He still wouldn't have been a better RB than Barry Sanders. Just my opinion.
