Bo Jackson is one of the greatest athletes ever

  • RATT said...

1,200 yards is solid but it's not HOF numbers or anything and that was in his best year. There will be four to five RB's at least that pass 1,200 yards rushing this year and it's a passing league now.

The only reasons Bo's numbers were that low is because he split carries with Marcus Allen. As I said earlier, he averaged over 5.4 yards per carry. Not many NFL running backs have ever averaged that many yards per carry. Give him more carries and he would have obviously had more yards

Once agains a bammer shits on a thread about Auburn or an Auburn player without having any clue what he is talking about

Aubie you know full well that I'm not shitting on Bo Jackson because he played for AU. I don't get into all that BS back and forth with you and the other Bama fans. Just saying that he wasn't as good of a RB as Barry Sanders was and it wasn't really that close IMO. I think him and Herschel Walker would be a fair comparison. It's not like that is exactly garbage.

He was recorded at the NFL combine as running a 4.12. According to ESPN an NFL record. Go fukc yourself.

Bo was a better RB also. Not just an athlete. He played football for fun. Would put Sanders to shame if he focused on just football.

    No he was not,

Link please or STFU. Nobody has ever been clocked as a 4.12, Deion Sanders and Chris Johnson included.

  • Bo Jackson averaged over 5.5 yards per carry 3 out of the 4 years he played in the NFL. In other words, he only had 1 season he averaged below 5. 5 yards per carry

Barry Sanders played 10 or 12 years and he only had two seasons where he averaged over 5.5 yards per carry

Okay at least that is an argument that I can buy. Kind of hard to argue with that one.

    He still didn't clock a 4.12 40 yard dash.

  • I'm in the Bo corner on the Barry Sanders argument. Barry was great and imo the 3rd best RB of all time(Brown, Simpson) but Bo was in a different league of talent. No one will ever know of course but to me the discussion comes down to one key and important factor, how good could Bo have been as a RB if he focused fully on football and playing RB? It's no stretch to say that playing football after playing a full baseball season drained his ability a bit and he still was outstanding as a RB while sharing carries most of his NFL career. The guy was amazing.

As far as the dual sport athletes, I didn't see Thorpe so I can't speak on his real talent level(just that I can guarantee that there are hundreds of athletes currently that would completely outclass him as a pure athletic talent because of genetics, technology and just pure evolution) but there is absolutely no way anyone should ever compare Deion Sanders to Bo. Bo could have been a HOF member in both sports, Deion was only ever gonna be a HOF member in football. He was good at baseball but greatness was never an option for him. Huge difference.

I like your argument, but even you'll agree that there are a whole lot of woulda, coulda, shoulda and if's in your statement. We know exactly what Barry Sanders could do with the pigskin in his hands. Also durability is a pretty necessary thing to look at when looking at talent. Greg Oden had all the talent in the world but couldn't stay healthy for more than 10 games at a time.

Nobody is getting pissy honestly ITT. I think it's been a pretty honest debate up until this point. You need to quit trying to drop the hammer everytime people disagree in a thread.

Again, you're acting like Bo didn't have 500+ NFL carries and that what he "could do with the pigskin in his hands" is a mystery for some reason.

This is a talent discussion. Nobody will deny that Sanders had a better football career, but, on talent alone or ability to play the position, to say it "isn't even close" like you did ... I gotta call that asinine.

There is no way. I simply don't believe it. Somebody with a faulty timer maybe clocked him at that, but there is no way that he was faster than anybody in the history of running the 40. That is World Record.
