Boardwalk Empire Season 2 Finale (spoilers)

  • WTF! I'm Pissed. How do you kill off Darmady??? Who's left to continue a conflict now? WTF? He was your best character? Does his friend with half a face pick up the slack now? WTF happens?

    I'm livid.

  • No kidding but first thing that will happen is half face friend will kill Darmody's mother. She is slut ass ?>.?>

  • Absolutely ridiculous to kill Jimmy.

  • Yeah I'm pissed too. And Margret giving the land away was shocking too. Last seasons finale was epic.

  • Nucky had to kill Jimmy. Just like Michael killed Fredo, you can't forgive people who turn on you/try to have you killed because you'll end up dead. Fact. It sucks that Jimmy was killed off because he *was* a great character, but as far as the storyline goes, and the way the season had been progressing, it had to be done, IMO.

    That bitch Margaret, amirite everyone?

I loved the juxtaposition between Randolph practicing her opening statements and all of her key witnesses/evidence going up in flames. What a great finale, and even though I am sad Jimmy is dead, I already can't wait for next season.

  • Yeah, same here. Ending, I guess, kinda had to be what it was, but it still is surprising. Jimmy was at least the co-lead of the show with Nucky. And, in the end, he was such a sympathetic character cause of how he was f'd up with no chance from birth with a mom like that.

  • Any chance Nucky was dreaming of what to do? I mean he called AR to ask about finishing off the butcher, not Jimmy.

Well, Nucky asked him if he'd care if the Butcher got killed. And then he said he had a decision to make. It was great writing. We assumed it was about whether or not to kill the Butcher... and it was... but it was also about, if he decides not to kill the Butcher, he's going to kill Jimmy. One of them had to die.

  • Thought it really was the only ending possible. Jimmy or Nucky had to die. I like that they did it. Too many shows hold on to their characters. Look at Sons of Anarchy. I've been waiting for three seasons for someone to die that has any importance. So far nothing and it's annoying. Boardwalk will kill of one of their stars to make the storyline credible.

  • OK... but how can Nucky carry this show? His character is uninteresting. The whole storyline with him and his f-ed up wife is BORING. I don't CARE that her kid has polio. It's not a reason to watch the show.

Who's going to go against him now? Everyone is on his side it seems. Does Richard pick up the slack? He hasn't said more than 10 words the whole season. If he goes on a killing spree I will be happy though.

Fact is, Jimmy going around actually getting his hands dirty with Richard was much more entertaining than watching Nucky talk on the phone, schmooze with his fellow politicians, and order his butler around.

I think he asked AR to find out if the Butcher was "his man". That way Nucky knew if he decided to let the Butcher live, then he could make him his own man.

There was no choice but to kill Jimmy. The entire episode was all about Jimmy correcting all his wrongs so he could die content.

I agree that Jimmy was the most interesting character, but the writing of the show left no believable outs for Jimmy AND Nucky to both live. Buschemi's character is based on a real person, so you knew he wasn't going down yet.

Richard is my other favorite character. His lack of dialogue only adds to is mystique. He is a straight up badass and everyone knows it. The scene when Richard and Owen met for the first time was the best one all season. The mutual respect shown between the two professional killers was fun to watch.

I'm not a History major, but I think Capone and Luciano/Lansky will be future antagonists. Nucky has quashed the coup d'etat in his own territory and now will need to compete with Chicago and New York.

  • I thought the ending was terrible. They have killed everyone off that was against Nucky. What the hell are they going to have a show about now? I agree with posters above; it is much more interesting watching Jimmy with the hands on stuff than Nucky being on the phone and whatnot. I still am wondering if Nucky was dreaming and we're in for a shocker next season.

What makes me so mad about Jimmy dying is the fact that Nucky chose to forgive Eli who blatantly lied to him about how the decision to assassinate him went down but decided he should kill Jimmy who was sincerely rueful of the decision. Nucky is supposed to be good at reading people and he should have seen right through that.

I never liked Eli and I dislike him more now. He goes against Nucky the whole time out of jealousy and then when he gets caught for it he blames other people claiming they threatened him because he couldn't sac up and admit that he intentionally went after his own brother.

Richard is a pretty interesting character but not so long ago he almost killed himself. Makes you wonder his capability for a calculated killing spree without someone directing the action. Where can he even go? The only people remotely loyal to him were Jimmy and Angela. Even Jimmy's mom doesn't really seem to care about him one way or the other.

And Margaret? Nucky needs to cut her loose and quickly. The woman has done nothing but annoy you and mess with your business because of her own guilt despite having her hand in almost no part of Nucky's actual dirty work. She even admitted to cheating on him for crying out loud. If my wife sat around all day with servants and no responsibilites then came to me about cheating. You better believe my response wouldn't be to try harder as a dad towards her kids and then ask her to marry me. Knowing Nucky and what we just witnessed, I think he doesn't really care about her the way we are led to believe and it wouldn't surprise me to see her go this next season.

If you remember though, even his suicide attempt was calm, collected and calculated. It was methodical and planned, not spontaneous. I'm not sure he has the capability of being independent, but I could certainly see a nice little killing spree coming next season.

She didn't admit cheating on him, she lied about that part.

Giving his land away I think will send him over the top, and as for forgiving Eli, Nucky holds family very high for the most part.

If Richard goes on a killing spree, who will be left to have a TV show? I never knew that Nucky's character was based on a real person. Look on wikipedia for Enoch Johnson (not thompson). HBO better have something good planned for next season. Jimmy made the show, IMO.

I think Nucky was still considering whether or not to kill Jimmy at that point. While there was no choice but to do it, until he pulled the trigger, he was still 50% politician/50% gangster. It wasn't a simple decision for him, even though he knew he had to. While the episode was about Jimmy correcting all his wrongs, he was going to do that regardless. He knew he was most likely going to be killed by Nucky before Nucky even knew for sure he was going to kill him IMO. The ending was about Nucky becoming 100% gangster.

Nucky did see through that. He didn't forgive Eli. He's using him. He needs Eli to take the fall for everything (like they discussed and Eli agreed to) so that the heat stays off of Nucky.

  • Fantastic ending! Scorsese will come up with something next year. Maybe a fight with the NY or Chicago guys with the butcher siding with Nucky while Richard kills some people off and Margret ends up dead too.

On the same level as when Pussy was killed off on Sopranos.
