Boston mayor’s letter to Chick-fil-A: Stay out of Boston! | The Lookout - Yahoo! News

From the blog The Lookout: On the heels of Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy's controversial public comments against same-sex marriage, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino fired off a letter to Cathy, urging him to abandon plans to expand the fast food chain to his city. In recent days you said Chick-fil-A opposes same-sex marriage and said the generation that supports it has [...]

  • If you've never been acquainted with Mayor Mumbles before, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Guy has a real knack or making himself look like a complete asshat in every exchange with the media.

Before the super bowl, he commended "Wes Wekler" and "Grabowski" for having great seasons.

  • Dumbest $hit that I have ever heard. Chick-Fil-A is one of the best fast food restaurants out there. What the hell do people expect devout Mormons to feel? Chick-Fil-A and the religious beliefs of it's owner is nothing new. Hell people have been crying for decades for them to open their doors on Sundays and they refuse to do it. Do you know how much revenue the guy is passing up for sticking to his religious beliefs on that one?

Now people are shocked that a devout Morman is so hard against Gay marriage? Give me a break.

lol it’s alright. I didn’t get it right any way’s.

There’s a number of UM fans who don’t like him because of the Fab 5/ Ed Martin scandal and the things associated with it, but I always liked him. He does a lot of great charity work in the city of Detroit, and has had a huge impact on the art culture in the city as well. He also played a role in Sacramento, keeping the King’s and, IIRC he also mentor’s a lot of young guy’s when they first come into the NBA. Despite his mistakes he’s a great example of a “Michigan Man”, I just wish more UM fans would see him that way.

people that speak up about their beliefs should be prepared for the backlash.

you take a stand, you are asking for people to respond. they can either agree, or disagree. If people disagree, and are incensed, they have the right to boycott.

public opinion and business go hand in hand. if they didn't want it, they could've buttoned their yap.

now, when their business hurts for it, and they lose money, they can either capitulate, or apologize, or stay the course.

I agree but I have a feeling that Chick-Fil-A just doesn't give a damn based on them shutting down all their shops on Sundays since their conception. If they will shut down every store down on Sundays across the country then I really doubt that they give a damn about one city caring about how they feel when it comes to their religious beliefs. I would say that if you opened all their shops on Sundays instead of shutting them down that they could give a damn about Boston.

    sure

but the backlash has been growing.

businesses should stay out of political matters, as a matter of policy.

who cares if they like gay marriage or not? all they have done is open themselves to trouble, all for some silly opinion that does not do anyone any good

  • People (or politicians) are standing up for their beliefs too by not eating (or allowing) CFA. No different than what Cathy is doing.

Yeah I agree with you honestly.

I don't know why the fvck the person that started the chicken business feels that they need to open themselves up to this. Mormons are devout fvckers though. One of my best friends in high school had devout Mormon's as parents. I felt bad for him. Dude never got Christmas presents and stuff like that as kids. Actually he was Jehova's Witness but I'm not sure the difference honestly.

I personally don't give a damn if gay people get married or not. Not sure what making it legal really changes anything. They are going to live the same life whether or not they are allowed to have to deal with the misery of marriage is up to them.

Besides all the health tax and legal benefits, sure same life. But easy solution for me, get goverent out if marriage completely. Let them set up partnership contracts, and let religious institutions decide who they want to "marry"

This isn't political to the Cathy family. In fact, this doesn't have much to do with Chick-Fil-a at all. This has more to do with the Winshape foundation(also founded by Truett Cathy). You can go research it as I don't feel like explaining it but in the end, Winshape has a camp where they host christian couple retreats and gay couples aren't allowed to attend. Chick-Fil-a donates a lot of money to them so pro gay groups have pointed to chick-fil-a as being anti-gay because of it's support of Winshape. Makes sense because no-one is going to be outraged over a christian non-profit organization being opposed to gay marriage but Chick-fil-a is a bigger name and more recognizable. They are run by the same family. Chick-fil-a itself doesn't discriminate. It is an organization. It serves food to gay people and straight people and everyone in between.

Pro gay groups have been screaming about this for a year and a half and it has made practically no dent in Chick-fil-a's popularity or success. Fact is, the Cathy's would probably let the franchise die before they compromise and that would be a shame to lose such delicious food. And with that, I am about to go there and eat breakfast now.
