still say we need a leadoff hitter and a relief pitcher ; we need to trade for one or both before the deadline if possible

  • I thought we would too up until the last 2 series. Jair is going downhill, Lowe hasn't pitched well all season, and are without a doubt one of the worst offensive teams in the majors. We could sign A-Rod and it wouldn't help as long as we have two of the bad news bears suiting up for us. As long as we keep Mclouth, Gonzo, and Schafer in the lineup we are finished. Problem is...the Braves front office is not the type of organization to make the moves necessary to compete for a championship.

Chipper, Freeman, and McCann are the only offensive threats in the lineup. JHey is in a bad sophomore slump and doesn't look like he is coming out of it any time soon. If the Bravos don't make a blockbuster trade then we won't win the WildCard....MARK IT DOWN.

  • Braves close to Acquiring bat

The Braves we heard earlier this month fully intend to acquire a hitter to bolster their lineup. The name that has been floating around the wire today is Oakland Athletics’ outfielder Josh Willingham.

Willingham, who is with the club after spending time with the Nationals, was involved in rumors with the Braves last season during the trade deadline but Washington wanted more than the Braves were willing to give up to a division rival.

The 32-year-old outfielder is hitting .241 with 13 HR and 50 RBI. These numbers are impressive for a player that plays in the pitching friendly confines of McAfee Coliseum.

The Braves would not have to give up too much in return. The burden of Atlanta in trying to acquire the bigger name of Carlos Beltran and B.J. Upton is that teams are asking for Julio Teheran, Mike Minor, Randall Delgado and Arodys Vizcaino, the Braves top pitching prospects. Educated predictions are the Athletics know they would not one of the big four.

Top position prospects for the Braves include SS Matt Lipka, SS/3B, Edward Salcedo, SS Andrelton Simmons and C Christian Betancourt. I don’t envision Atlanta giving them up either so look for a couple prospects maybe SP Zeke Spruill could be a possibie player of interest for the A’s.

Spruill, who is currently in Advanced Single A Lynchburg, has a record of 7-8 with a 3..06 ERA. The Athletics would be looking for position player prospects but the Braves are not rich with them and the better ones they have they wont trade.

He has given up 10 runs his last 2 outings. Not saying he is bad, just saying he is not pitching the 2nd half like he did the first, so far at least.

If our pitchers give up more than 3 runs, we are pretty much toast. We are now 27th in league in team avg (.239)...LMFAO. Only the Mariners, Nats, and Pads are worse. We are also 25th in OBP and 3rd in strikeouts. We should've kept Diaz and sent McLouth packing.

Just another fun fact for the rest of the Braves fans out there...this is our worst offensive team since 1989, when our team avg was .234. We aren't too far off from beating that either.

shrug Who knows man, I was confident in landing someone but now it doesn't seem like we'll get a bat. Seems everyone wants one of the big four pitching prospects and the Braves seem reluctant to give any of them up. I'd give up Minor for Upton or Rasmus if I were in Wren's shoes, but that's just me.

great stuff Tusks and i agree with you that we could give up Minor or another pitching prospect to get the bat that we really need at this point ; it doesnt have to be a huge bat but would rather see someone that we could use for more than 3 months unless its somebody we have a chance to resign after the season

Thats weird. A couple weeks ago they said they werent interested in Willingham..guess they changed their minds. All i know is after these past 3 games our AVG with RISP is terrible and we need someone now. If I had it my way I'd get a CF, SS, and LR. Im sick of McClouth and Gonzo stranding runs and not even making contact. I will hand it to Nate that he has done better as of late and his BA with RISP in respectable, Alex's is awful. I dont even want to look at how many men we've stranded on base the past few games..it's hard to watch them right now.

at some point you have to wonder about what positive affect the hitting coach is having on the team ; i know that at this level the hitting coach is not that important but clearly something has affected our hitting confused
