erewally sad but if they are not accepting those players in a trade then you really have to stand pat for now ; no way you give up all of those players for Pence in my opinion no

  • Looks like we're down to ludwick, willingham, and pence. We are the last team that the Astro's are dealing with involving pence..most think its a longshot. So that leaves ludwick and willingham as the most probable.

I agree. If they turned down that deal from Philly, I'm terrified to see what it would take from us to land Pence.

I don't think we trade for Pence. Asking price isn't worth him IMO. There's still options out there but we're liable to stand pat at this point. cry

  • It looks like the Nats are after Denard Spann. Y'all need to get in him. Good CF, career .366 OBA and locked up through 2014 with a team option for 2015. 2012-2014 he owed just over 14 million. Give up Minor for 3+ cheap years of Spann.

  • The braves front office are idiots. Apparently we plan on having a 10 man pitching rotation since we won't give up anyone. As long as McLousy and Gonzo go a whopping 2-30 they will stay in Braves uni's. At this point, it would't surprise me to see them re-sign both. Never thought I'd see the day again where ATL is happy being 2nd in the division.

If we don't trade for a good bat then we aren't going to win $hit. If we sign either McLousy or Gonzo again I am gonna just find another team to pull for that wants to win.

The deadline isnt up yet. And to call the braves front office idiotic IS idiotic. I may not always agree with them, but Frank Wren and John Schuerholtz are some of the best baseball minds in the biz. Im sure they have their reason's why they are being stingy with our prospects. My guess would be even with a trade they dont see us taking the World Series..or possibly even the NL. So they arent going to trade talent now for a rental when they could trade that talent next year when it's worth twice as much for a player they can actually sign long term.

Who said anything about a rental. I don't mean Beltran, I mean in general. We have quite a few young pitching prospects, but absolutely NO outfielders in the minors that will be ready in the next 2-3 years. The highest rated OF prospects aren't producing and are staying hurt. We need to give up what we need to in order to get a couple of very good prospects or current solid OF's.

And yes the Braves front office is idiotic. They have had a long history of terrible trades.

1). Rented Teixeira for 1 year and gave up: Elvis Andrus (C, 25 yo, .281 avg/.333 OBP), Matt Harrison (P, 25 yo, 3.05 ERA), Neftali Feliz (P, 23 yo, 3.35 ERA), and Jarrod Saltalamacchia (C, 26 yo, .256 avg/.321 OBP). Terrible trade because we didn't even make the playoffs and have nothing to show for it since we dealt Tex to the Los Angeles Angels for 1B Casey Kotchman and minor league pitcher Steve Marek.

2). Rented J.D. Drew for 1 year and gave up: Adam Wainwright (no need for stats guy is great) and Jason Marquis (won 42 games in three seasons with the Cards).

There are more but not gonna beat a dead horse. There are plenty of OF we could go after and Wren and Schuerholtz don't want to give up pitching. Again we can't have a 10 man pitching rotation. Give up a couple for a player you plan to keep in a Braves uniform for a long time. Schuerholtz has wasted prospects for players he only intended to rent to begin with, which was idiotic.

Pitching is only going to get you so far and yes the Braves could make a great run if they would deal for players he intends to keep for many years to come. Pence/Bourn/Upton would be major upgrades in the OF and it's not like we are going to have 4 brand new SP in our rotation next year so get rid of a couple of them for 1-2 of those players.

we built our 90's run on pitching and farm system. They are trying to re-establish that now. They dont want to deal Minor because he is our best lefty prospect. Whenever these young guys are ready they will be good and they will be cheap. You completely forget that in the past few years they have drafted well. Freeman, Heyward, and kimbrel were all drafted in the last couple of years. Some trades fall through, it happens with every franchise. The reason they are holding on to this talent is because what you listed in #1. They dont want to trade young talent away for someone they dont think is worth it. I still think a trade will happen, but they are not going to give our future away for someone they cant re-sign, much less a bench player.

That's the thing, we don't have any good OF in the minors. So we planning to field a team full of pitchers?

Need major upgrades in LF and CF. Can't wait to draft one.

We can trade or sign in the offseason next year. My guess is that they arent impressed with what is available now. If they are going to give talent away it better be for something they can resign for years. I would welcome Bourn, Upton, or Pence. But I think the Astros and the Rays are asking too much. I just read something about Coco Crisp..dont feel good about that one.
