If that's the case, why have they been so lousy since they moved from Montreal?

We haven't been that bad geez, its not easy building a winner

We certainly had the money to build a sweet ass new stadium that has helped renovate one of the worst areas of DC

Because we've been building our team through the draft, like a team should do...

That takes time and patience, and now it's looking like all those years of developing and scouting are going to pay off. And on top of that, we're locking up our young guys long term.

That the Moore you just talked about right ?

    Yep

That's our future power hitter (62 HR's and 201 RBI's in 11/10). He will be a full time fixture in the lineup in 2013. I don't expect the Nationals to re-sign Michael Morse after this season (Injured too much..), and he will replace Morse in LF, and can even play 1B too.

I hate to tell you this, but yes, you have been that bad. Not a winning season in seven tries, multiple seasons where you have lost 90+ games. Obviously you're off to a great start this year, and the immediate future looks good based on prospects alone.

The money used to build that stadium is not the same money that is used to buy free agents. Ted Lerner did not pay for Nationals Park, which I agree is a sweet ass stadium. Maybe the Nats will surprise me and start spending like crazy, but I don't see the ability for them to be able to sign multiple players to 150 million+ deals.

We have not been that bad considering like Bushido said it was obvious what we were doing

But hey if you just want to shit on us then go for it, I don't really care

I hate to tell you this but I hope Harper drives you batshit for a generation while Winston and Coker make you wish Saban could beat Jimbo out for your states best QB's

So you're bringing football recruiting into a discussion about baseball? And as an FSU fan, you're talking trash to me? I thought you were better than that.

All I'm saying is that I don't see Washington as a big market team at this point. They've not acted as one since their move there in 2005. Building through the draft is fine. But they've not shown a real willingness to consistently spend big money. I'm skeptical as to whether they can hang on to prospects like Strasburg or Harper if those guys live up to potential.

Now quick, rail me about that 2007 football win.

You gave up a game winning TD to a player named Fagg..... burned!

    You lost to XL.... burned!

You lost to a Bobby Bowden coached team in the 2000's.... mega burn!

My judgments of this franchise's brief history are made relative to MLB as a whole. If you want to judge them based on the history of DC sports, that's fine too.

Yeah you clearly know more about baseball than me, I can only name like 6 players on my favorite team and only know 3 of there jersey numbers

1.) D.C. is a big city market. $$$ It's the ninth largest media market.

2.) We're about to get a HUGE TV contract deal with MASN, with help from Chuck Greenberg, an architect of the Rangers’ massive TV deal. He got the Rangers a 20-year, 3 billion dollar TV deal.

3.) We've already showed that we will spend big $$$, and we offered Prince Fielder well close to $200 million dollars, and were his favorites until the Tigers came out of the blue with that ridiculous deal.

4.) Get used to the Nationals emergence in baseball. It's long over due.

  • Nationals will spend their money once the fans show up, the owner isn't gonna throw out 9 figure contracts at free agents when that player isn't enough to get them to their first playoff series and they have no fan base, now the team is at the poit where 1 free agent might put them over the top..... Signing Werth was the beginning, they made serious offers for lee and fielder.. If Bryce and stras stay in Washington the Natties are gonna own that division like the braves in a few years

    ^^ He gets it

We also were aggressive in getting All-Star pitcher Gio Gonzalez from the A's this off-season. People forget that the Nationals had a deal in place to land Zach Grienke, but he turned down the 9 figure deal we offered him to get him to waive his no-trade contract.

That Nationals have been VERY aggressive over the last two years. People are just so used to as sucking, that nobody has been paying attention -- UNLESS YOU LIVE IN D.C., or follow every team closely.

Like I said, get used to the Nationals at the top of the NL East. We have the best rotation in baseball. We have some VERY good pitching prospects still in our farm system that we can either develop, or trade away for bigger pieces to help NOW.

  • Man you guys make me feel like I don't even know what baseball is anymore

I haven't paid attention in so long its hard to get back into, these Nationals are my only hope

I want them to be so bad I can taste it, this thread has given me a good idea and after 2 games now that I watched you can really see it

This is a good looking young team

  • Yeah the Nat's have a bright future. The Gio Gonzalez pick up went under the radar, good young pitcher. As a Phillies fan, I am certainly worried about them the next few years. They kind of remind me of the early 2000s Phillies. Lot of young guys who will all mature together. We had Rollins, Utley, Howard, Werth, Victorino, and Hamels. Plus, once we started winning we the fans started selling out the games and we able make some big splashes in FA and trades. We'll see if the same happens for the Nat's. The past few years that stadium has been Philly South when the Phils play there
