Butkus Award Finalists are in.. Care to post their Stats?

  • I know Te'o will win this, there's no way he loses with all the hype him and ND are receiving but can the fans of the 4 finalists post the stats for their nominees? I would love to see how each player matches up in terms of numbers with one another.... And there's still another game for each of these guys to be played.. Talk about 4 absolute STUDS man, wow

    The finalists are:

    Manti Te'o
    Jarvis Jones
    Kevin Minter
    CJ Mosley

    Minters Stats:

    - Team high 101 tackles
    - 3 National Player of the Week awards
    - SEC DPOTW 2 times
    - Leads the team in TFL with 14
    - 3 Sacks
    - 5 Pass Breakups
    - 4 QB huries
    - 1 INT
    - 1 FF

Biggest game was against UF, 20 tackles (17 solo), also didn't play 6-7 minutes due to injury late in that game. (Most tackles by an LSU player since 1988)

Against TAMU.. Minter had 12 tackles, one sack, an interception, two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup in the 24-19 win over the Aggies.

Those are Minters stats and I just want to see how he stacks up with the other finalists so Bama, ND and UGA fans, please weigh in with your finalist stats.

    Thanks fellas

  • Mauti should have been a finalist.

96 tackles (missed most of last weeks game)
    2.5 sacks

  • Minter was one of my favorite players to watch this year. Had never heard of him, then I watched the Florida game and the guy was everywhere. Hitting hard, running fast, making plays behind the line of scrimmage.

Didn't see much of Jones, and I missed the Michigan vs. Bama game (thank god).

Teo'o was pretty sick obviously, but I preferred Minter's game (not a sleight on Teo'o, both are absolute studs).

    2 passes broken up

Thanks brutha.. Dude was a highly rated recruit from Georgia and we all knew he was talented.. But didn't know he was THIS good.. He is fast but he is a very BIG MLB.. Prototypical NFL sized MLB.. Chavis specializes in LBers so the credit goes to him for coaching Minter up.

These 4 finalists are insanely talented though.. Minter, Te'o, Jones and Mosley will all be very good in the NFL.. I haven't seen this many good LBers in 1 year in a long time.. Each of these guys could win this award in most other years.

Yeah man.. Jones is a friggin' manimal.. Unfortunately those 2 missed games will probably hinder his chances at winning this award but I have nothing but respect for Jarvis, and every other LBer on this list for that matter. All will have very nice NFL careers.

All depends on how bad the knee injury is. He probably would have went 2nd/3rd round, but now who knows.

How many touchdowns allowed by being undisciplined?

Shazier is a great playmaker, but Bucks overrate him ten fold. Makes a bunch of great plays, also makes a bunch of horrible ones.

    In your opinion.

He is true sophomore playing for a different position coach than his freshman year. Granted its not a complete different defensive scheme, but it is still different. Also whatever you base your "undisciplined" comment on is once again just your opinion. Whether it was something you read or you watch the games and made your own assumptions. I'm sure none of those others LB's gave up any plays. Also I would love to know how many TD's he "allowed". Please go check it out along with all the above players mentioned.

  • I think more so that any awards, defensive awards are given to players that make those handfull of plays that make a difference. Fro an example, see Mathieu winning over Claiborne last year (I know, not the exact same award).

Here is what these guys did in the 4 games of note for their teams this year. Full disclosure: It was a stretch finding a 3rd game of note this season, much less a 4th, so my theory has Jarvis Jones out of the running, but I will still list 4 of his. I will also point out that Jones has the biggest stage of the 4 probably left in his season as well though.

    Te'o: Michigan, Stanford, OU, Pitt

    37 tackles 4 TFL 1.5 Sacks 3 Ints 1 PBU 2 QB hurries 1 FR

    Jones: SCar, FL, Tenn, Vandy

    32 tackles 9.5 TFL 5 Sacks 0 Ints 0 PBU 7 QB hurries 2 FF

    Minter: FL, Bama, SCar, aTm

    48 tackles 4 TFL 3 Sacks 1 Int 2 PBU 4 Qb hurries 1 FF

Mosley: Michigan, Miss St, LSU, aTm

    32 tackles 1.5 TFL 1.5 Sacks 1 Int 3 PBU 1 QB hurry 1 FR 1 TD

Synopsis: Minter has the most production, IMO of any LBer in the nation and I think he will be much better at the next level than anyone believes at the moment, but I still think Te'o wins like I said for the same reasons Mathieu won over Claiborne last year. He has the "moments" IMO.

If LSU would have Minter Florida with the game he had, it could be different. At the same time, I think Jones had an amazing game against Florida, but came up small in some other games (some because of injury) and didn't have enough face time on TV like the others. Like I said though, he will have a big chance next week though.

Mosley is a great LBer, but isn't really a threat to win the thing, IMO.

I was asking you how many TD's he has allowed because of his irresponsible positioning in hopes of making a big play. He makes a lot of big plays, but is responsible for a lot of them as well.

You could. I just picked UT because it was such a close game. Same with Te'o and Pitt.

Jones and Minter both are better, IMO but the award is going to Te'o, especially with a win Saturday.

You would be better off if you take CJ. I won't argue Minter having better stats. CJ doesn't play in our base due to so many linebackers and our preference for huge guys in the middle. If you look at our snaps on defense this year, between sub packages and time we have our backups in I bet CJ has only played 60% of our snaps and still has those numbers. Best coverage LB I've seen in the SEC in a looooong time.

Minter is better for that division, playing Cleveland and Baltimore twice. CJ has Patriots written all over him one day, IMO.

Haha Minter is a stud no doubt. He is likely the better run defender of the two, though I think CJ in a 4-3 would make a good run defender as he's a great tackler. CJ just has instincts and range at LB in pass coverage that very few ever have.
