Have a 6-year old Doberman and my 3-year old absolutely loves him. Best dog out there IMO.

I had two German Shepherds when my daughter was born and they were great with her. The older dog would let my daughter poke her in the eyes, nose, ears, and dig in her mouth (this was when she was going thought the whole where is you eyes...ect. phase). My daughter would lay on top of my dog and she would just lay there. My younger one avoided her like the plague when she was younger but once he figured out that she would play with him for hours (she was right around 2) he never left her alone. He always slept in her bed and followed her around. Both dogs were extremely protective of her. I have even known GS that herd the family kids away from the street when they are outside.

Honestly you should rescue a dog. You can get a dog that's already house trained(why would you want to try to break a dog and chase 2 kids around?) they are very loyal as they seem to know what you're doing for them and you can play with them and know what kind of dog they are before you pick one.

1. If youre buying your 3 year old a dog, youre buying yourself and know it

I've had a lab around 100lbs and most were 75 lbs on average. No idea what you consider a "big dog".

I've always liked really big dogs too, but their life expectancy is too short. Would kill me to lose a dog in 6-8 years.

Isn't that one of those Bear dogs from Kazakhstan or something?
