    Big 10 - Legends

    Nebraska - 16.5 (8.0 Talent, 8.5 Coaching)

After the last class I would go 8.5 on talent and 8.5 coaching. If Bo can finally win a CCG I will bump that coaching up to a 9.5 with a successful offense, but your assessment I can live with.

God damn MSU is deep in this thread, speaking of the thread though this is a much cooler idea than originally thought

    MOAR!

I posted a link on our board, what'd you expect biggrin. I also hit up the Wisky and Neb board; figured tOSU has enough of a presence. I'll do Iowa, etc. after lunch.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I think the defense is a 10 on talent. I would like to give it a 10 on coaching but until Raymond proves he can keep the secondary rolling I can't give it a 10.

And the only proven quantity, players and coaches, on offense is Burkhead. At the end of the season this rating could be 9.5 talent and 9.5 coaching. But if the new coaches fail and the offense and secondary sputter it could be a long year.

Nebraska has the highest variance of any team near the top this year with the new coaches and conference.

Yeah, way too many variables right now to get a real good feel.

He means UM as in the University of Michigan.

I took the liberty of assessning Northwestern at a 12.5; 3.5 in talent, 9.0 in coaching. Any objections? I'll rely on members of a conference to determine the ratings of teams that don't have 247 boards, though I'll probably do the Big 10, with the assistance of of our fellow members on here.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • I'll go 8.5 or 9 and 8.5 or 9...Anywhere between 17 and 18 for us. After thinking it over, I was going based on the last 2-3 years and not what our team is right now.

I'd say 8.5/8.5 or 9/8.5. Need objective criticism or scoring to make up my mind.

  • I see I'm a little late on the thread, but I was going to suggest adding a third element of "experience".

I think Auburn will have close to 8 or 9 on talent for next year, but it's almost entirely from the 2010 and 2011 classes. So while you could come up with a 8 on talent, that wouldn't really tell the whole story. Experience would be a 3 or a 4, which would put the 8 for talent into some context.

So on a three-part scale, I would give Auburn an 8.5 for talent, 9 for coaching, and a 3 for experience = 20.5 total.

PS. That's why a lot of fans are excited for 2012, when the experience part goes up to a 7 or 8 and the total is 25 or 26.

I was kind of hoping posters would take into account experience when rating their talent. I'm not going to add in an extra factor at this point, but people can adjust their talent accordingly. If this works out, I'd like to do it every season to give an outlook.

FWIW, I'm having a lot of fun doing this, and it's kind of cool to see the first post actually fill out.

I don't think NW is at a 3.5 anymore. They used to get all 2-stars but lately it's a good amount of 3 stars with some two stars. I'd say 5 is reasonable for them.

Agree. I was going to say at least 4, closer to 4.5 in talent.

IMHO, a 3.0 average gets you a 5 or so in talent. They're under that, but I get your point. I'll put them at a 4.
