for an overall score of 13.5. I do believe coaching can be an 8 or higher, just some question marks with the coordinators.

It's your own assessment really, but most have been looking at the recruiting rankings. I'm trying to get as an objective rating as possible, but there are going to be a few (obvious) problems

    1) I don't know team's rosters as well as fans of that team do.

    2) Because of #1, I have to rely on fans' opinions on their own team's talent

    3) Because of #1 and #2, there's bound to be some hyperbole.

    4) Recruiting rankings are going to be used as evidence by teams highly rated by the services, and disregarded by those teams that aren't as highly rated, it's best to just ask fans what they think of their own talent.

Because I don't feel like taking the average of every BCS team's recruiting class over the past 5 years by the 3 main sites (Rivals/Scout/ESPN), I'm just going to rely on fans to be as objective as possible.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Big 10 - Leaders

    Penn State - 15 (Talent: 7.5, Coaching: 7.5)
    Wisconsin -14 (Talent: 6, Coaching: 8)
    Ohio State - 14 (Talent: 9, Coaching: 5)
    Illinois - 12.5 (Talent: 6.5, Coaching: 6)
    Indiana - 6.5 (Talent: 3, Coaching: 3.5)
    Purdue - 6.5 (Talent: 3.5, Coaching: 3)

    Big 10 - Legends
    Nebraska - 16 (Talent: 8, Coaching: 8)
    Michigan State - 15 (Talent: 7, Coaching: 8)
    Iowa - 14 (Talent: 6, Coaching: 8)
    Michigan - 13.5 (Talent: 8.5, Coaching: 5)
    Northwestern - 13 (Talent: 4, Coaching: 9)
    Minnesota - 9.5 (Talent: 6, Coaching: 3.5)

Based my talent ratings purely on Rivals. Based coaches on current staffs, with first year coaches slightly de-valued.

This basically mirrors how I believe the B1G will play out this year with one exception. I don't really think Penn State will make it to the championship game, but it shows how close the B1G is. The only reason I think PSU won't make it is that they won't go into Columbus and Madison in back to back weeks and get the win (unless Bolden can really get it together, and even then its very unlikely).

Edsal (sp?) was out-coached by Rich Rod. Maybe a 7.5/20.

  • First one here for UC. Hard to tell what kind of coach CBJ is after 4-8 season, following back-to-back BCS teams. I'll say 6 for coaching. Offensively we have some real talent at the skill positions, but our line play and defense are questions marks too. I'd give us a 6.5 on the talent skill for players. 12.5 total. But here is to hoping that CBJ and the Bearcats prove me to have underestimated them!

I was being sarcastic as well. If we could arrange some activities during football season for Dabo to be involved in so he doesn't have to actually be at the games, I think he could be a pretty decent coach.

And I like Steele, but at the same time, part of me really wants us to go after a big name coach instead of hiring all these "up and comers" that never really pan out. I would love to have Malzahn if he decided to pursue a head coaching job.

Yeah I might be underrating the talent a bit. O'Brien, DJ Adams and Kenny Tate are a great core. O and D line plus the LB's still question marks. (even though Tate is now a hybrid LB)

Edsall hasn't coached a game here yet but already #2 in the Atlantic in terms of coaching ability. He would be 2/3 in the coastal too imo. Gary Crowton might have done poorly at LSU but the ACC isn't the SEC west. He is a great offensive mind for a team coming off James Franklin.

Ah yes, this is what I get for glancing at the rules.

Let's use a rounding method and go with

    Wisconsin

    Talent: 7
    Coaching: 8.5

    Total: 15.5

I posted a link on our board, what'd you expect biggrin. I also hit up the Wisky and Neb board; figured tOSU has enough of a presence. I'll do Iowa, etc. after lunch.

Lmao, that would explain the -6 then. Like I said, msu fans neg bomb me as soon as they screen name, regardless of whether or not I talk about msu.

As for Michigan, 8 talent, that has played like 6 talent. Coaching has 8+ potential, Hoke has been named his conference coach of the year 2 of the last 3 years, Borges is an established Offensive Coordinater, and Mattison's resume speaks for itself.
