    I read ours:

The scene in the stands is revelatory, with jacked-up fans waving their “Cocky Clothes” from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.

I have been going to games my entire life and have never heard of a "cocky cloth". don't even mention sandstorm, 2001...I am curious if this writer has ever been to any of these stadiums...

Cocky Cloth = white towels they hand out at games....no way you haven't seen them. Agree on the no mention of 2001/Sndstrm though.

Right, have you heard of this thing called snow? I don't think you get much around your parts

You said 50 degrees. And yes, it snows in the south, just not every week from November through March. I've actually watched a few games in an icy mix. I don't think it changes the outcome of the game much because both teams have to deal with it..... but it does suck for the fans.

of course I see the white towels...but as I am not 33 and don't sit in the student section anymore, I do not get to participate...although at my advanced age I enjoy the club seats more.

So they call the white towels "cocky cloths" now? we just called them "towels" back when i was in school.

laugh it up but you know i ain't lying if you been to a game at Davis wade stadium

I've watched a lot of games in Starkville. It can get pretty loud with all those bells and you guys are usually pretty jacked up for the first half. It usually gets pretty quiet after that point though.

Also...on the "come play in B1G country" talk..

    Columbus, OH average temps..

September: 77 degrees the normal high, 56 degrees the normal low...sounds like great temps to me
October: 65 degrees is the normal high, 45 degrees the average low....so brutal..not sure how you guys do it..
November: 53 degrees is the normal high, 35 degrees the normal...35 is somewhat cold, but OSU doesn't play many night games at home in November.

    Tuscaloosa, AL average temps...

September: 87 degrees is the normal high, 63 degrees the normal low
October: 78 degrees the normal high, 51 the average low
November: 66 degrees the normal high, 39 the average low

And oddly enough, Alabama typically plays Miss State at night in November. Not uncommon to be around 45 for the kickoff and the high 30's at the beginning of the 4th. But does tOSU play night games in November? Rarely..

I'm not sure about the south, but average temperatures don't necessarily mean much in Ohio as our weather can swing pretty widely from one day to the next. I've been to games in November that were very pleasant, but I have also been to games where the high for the day was below freezing and the temp was in the low twenties by the end of the game (no night games in November, but the sun goes down by 6:00 so it can get pretty cold towards the end of a 3:30 game.

Just this past spring we had an example of the way Ohio weather can swing. It was sunny and 75 on friday the day before our spring game. Then we got rainy and 40s on saturday for the game.

  • I like this line under the LSU spot:

Since the start of the century, LSU is a wicked 72-11 at Tiger Stadium, including 17 straight wins... That's over a decade in the SEC with only 11 losses.

We try pretty hard not to play home games on the road. It wouldn't be logical to blow in fake snow. Everyone makes a big deal out of it, but football is football and we keep kicking everyone's ass.

    Hmmm

Kiffin said Oregon's Autzen Stadium is the loudest stadium in the country, a bold claim - especially after he made trips to Tuscaloosa (Alabama) and Gainesville (Florida) last year. "I still think Autzen Stadium is louder than all those (Alabama, Florida) places" - Lane Kiffin, USC Head Coach

It's more exciting for Oregon to host a good USC team than it is for Bama/UF to host a really bad UT team. I've heard great things about Autzen, so I'm not arguing. UT/Bama was one of the quietest games I've been to in years because we just never got off the bus that day and everyone was just nervously watching. The big games in Bryant Denny are as loud as anywhere, and night games in Baton Rouge are off the charts.

I'll never forget late December 2000. I was leaving to go home for Christmas from the U of A. It was 80 degrees and I was wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Thunderstorm rolled up, supercell tornado blew away a few neighborhoods just south of town. I was frantic...trying to call my roommate who was asleep from working the night shift at a hotel. He wouldn't answer. Later that night I was watching the news from the other side of the state and it was 29 or so degrees and snowing in Tuscaloosa. The swings happen everywhere. We'll go 72 to 20 to 50 to 83 to 17. Usually goes in 3 day swings or so, but the big jumps usually happen overnight.
