Cal recruiting primed to explode

Must read for any Cal Bears fan wanting to see the potential for their class of 2012 and their push to finish in the top five team rankings.

  • Things are getting very interesting to say the least. I saw this pic on the USC Fight On! Site and it was traveling fast around other sites. Shittu, McCarthy, Shaq & Armstead holding up a "C" (presumably for Cal) while Ruffin, Simmons & Semour throwing up the V for Victory for USC.

  • Looks like Jordan Payton is throwing up Avalon Gangsta Crip. blank

  • McCarthy can certainly pledge for the Bears? But will he sign with them when everything is said and done?

    Julio Nievas

  • I like how Magnuson is just chillin on the side. That kid is funny.

That's a good question and I will be the first to admit anything can happen in the next three weeks. USC won't back down one bit, assuming he does pledge Cal.

  • Ed O vs Tosh for McCarthy. Should be a crazy last three weeks leading up to NSD.

Agreed, they need to revamp the coaches.

You won't find1 single Cal fan who doesn't agree with you. Most would keep Tosh and Coach Gould (who recruits RB's) and get rid of the rest.

Tedhead isn't in hot water just yet because our AD loves him but if he can't produce next year with this class, new training facilities and a new stadium she's going to feel the pressure from our alums who donated too the new facilities to make a change.

This is a whole new level of recruiting for Cal.

They've never been able to recruit 5-star defensive players under Tedford.

Moala last year was the highest rated player ever for Cal on the defensive side, and even he was a 5-star at Scout.com only (4-star at rivals, espn, and here).

Every single HS 5-star recruit Tedford has been able to sign (just TWO over his 10-year tenure at Cal: DeSean Jackson and Keenan Allen) became great players.

Even for Cal, this type of recruiting is just unheard of.

Keenan Allen was a five star S, who also happens to be a five star WR too.

Sure recruiting sites rated him as the #1 S recruit in the country, but I didn't count Allen because Tedford recruited him as a WR, and he's not played even a single snap on the defensive side.

  • It's getting clearer that the USC sanctions have made Cal a big winner on the recruiting trail. Armstead and McCarthy and others would have been Trojans in normal times.

Snactions have nothing to do with SC losing out on Arik Armstead.

I hear you. At the end of the day, both SC and Cal will bring in high quality classes. The only difference is with the onfield results as Cal has Zach Maynard as their starting QB. If Tedford is able to develop Kline, they could start making some noise.

  • Kline is the real deal. Hopefully Tedford will give Kline the reigns early like Barkley. Maynard just isn't a FBS QB.

  • Wow, civil discussion between opposing team fanbases. Love it!

So as a Cal fan do you think once Tedford's buyout is more "reasonable" does he get canned? And, if so, who do you target to replace him?

  • I feel Tedford will get to finish the entirety of his contract for 2 reasons.

#1 The new facilities/stadium are in large part due to him, they are going to give him a couple years to play with.
#2 The last 3 years (this year included) there has been a huge upswing in recruiting, and a lot of these highly rated players haven't seen the field yet - we are going to see what he can do with them.

Pete Carrol's name has been thrown out for a long time now regarding a replacement, Bellotti as well.

Well, most Cal fans believe that Tosh Lupoi is the HC in waiting but if it's in a year its' going to be too early. I think he'll be the next DC first.

Tedford's contract is almost bullet proof. Every year he makes a bowl game they add a year to his contract. It's the worst clause ever! Already rumblings that alums are ready to buy him out...

The way the UC Budget is, I'm sure they will try to find a young up and coming coach to take over...like Tedford was 10 years ago.

Tedford's contract doesn't have a buy out clause. He'd have to be paid the extent of his contract, which is around $2.8 Million per year:

    2012
    2013
    2014

That's about $8.5 Million. We're a public school. This will never happen. Coach Tedford is here for the long haul. Let's get that Rose Bowl we need so a generation of Blues can die peacefully.

  • Where would this leave moala with all this talent? Want to see the kids potential as a starter.

Have you heard anything about UW going after Tosh? Sark is in jeapordy of losing the top three instate players if Banner signs with SC. That's never a good look.
