Why not? I realize we put a lot of stock on championships, but he's only one guy on the team. He can't help it the rest of the Lions isn't very good. That makes tonight's accomplishment even more impressive, actually, IMO.

Just wont happen. He has to be on a team that can win something

  • 2 of the best ever at their positions played for Detroit and they have nothing to show for it. It's sad. I feel bad for Calvin and Barry.

I wish that was a mindset we could change. I really hate judging an individual based on team successes or failures. And it's a weird double standard 'cause like you said, we won't give Calvin credit unless the Lions win, but on the flip-side, Tebow never got any credit even though the Broncos won under him last year.

People are weird is all I'm saying.

I actually agree with what you are saying. Same thing for the Heisman. If your team doesnt have a great year then more than likely no one on the team will have a shot

Tebow never got credit? Did you live in a cave for half of last year?

C'mon now, there were some that did, but most of what we heard was (a) it was really the defense's team and (b) Tebow is still overrated. All I'm saying is that it's a weird double standard.

My best example, Jeff, is how it took A-Rod until his last year in Texas to finally win the MVP. If he'd been on the Yankees his whole career, he'd have already won it twice by then.

Tebow was getting all the credit and there was rarely mention of their defense or the fact Prater was kicking 60 yd FG's to win a game. Tebow was a terrible QB for 3 1/2 quarters, then because their defense kept then in it, he was given the opportunity to convert. He did play well late in games, but was atrocious for the first 55 mins.

Then you could say the flip-side of the flip-side is true; that Tebow played like sh!t but because the team won we overlooked it. All I'm saying is we should stop applying team achievements, good or bad, to individual ones. Calvin Johnson shouldn't have his place in history altered because of who he played for; it should be how he played.

  • So, assuming we don't cout playoff yards for this record, there's an off-chance that Megatron could still make it to 2,000 yards with one game left. However, it's not likely. That being said, if Johnson can't pull it off this season, think we'll ever see a 2,000 yard regular season?

I agree with half of your statement. I think it depends a lot less on being considered "great" in football when it comes to winning championships unless you are a qb. Just way to many other things have to go right with so many players for someone like a WR not to be considered GOAT over another just because he didn't win a ring.

Still, WR's also have it a TON easier than the WR's in Jerry Rice and them boys days. It's a patty cake league for WR's from where it was just a decade ago.

  • It's ridiculous. Took a chance on a rb with concussion problems in Best, took a chance on a wide receiver with knee problems in broyles, took a chance on fairley who had discipline problems, and took a chance on young who also had discipline problems. I'm sick of the idiots upstairs taking chances on people. Look where it's got them. I feel bad for Calvin because he's most likely going to end up like Barry Sanders.

If the Lions don't take a linebacker with their first pick I'm done watching them.

What lb in this draft is worth a top 5 pick?

The problem this year is that there's no skill players that the lions really need that are top five worthy. I'd take Te'o anyway. Then I'd take a corner or OL in the next round.
