Can someone explain the race component of Manziell's arrest?

Did he make the comment before his arrest or did his friend?
I have not gotten a clear answer and neither have the Heisman voters.

Someone he was with made racial slurs to another guy then the altercation happened. That's all I know.

From what Ive read a friend of his was using racial slurs and JF was just trying to break it up, nobody said JF himself did or said anything racist.

Cam stole someone's laptop and chunked it out a window.... Manziel got in a fight. I think Cam's offense was a little more serious and that's why you hear about it a little more.

Wrong. Damage to the person is and has always been a more serious criminal offense than damage to property. Always. Without exception. But continue to think that way. For example, if someone steals your property, you cannot kill them to get it back. Conversely, if someone points a gun at you and you reasonably believe your life is in danger, you can kill that person in self-defense.
If you can somehow fill me in on your logic of how receipt of stolen property and tampering with said property evidence is more egregious than physically assaulting someone preceded by the use of racially charged language to incite the aforementioned physical assault, I would love to hear it.

He was under the influence, and was protecting his friend, who was using derogatory words towards an older black man. The man was coming after Johnny's friend, and he stepped in. He was arrested for PI I believe, but he lied to police officers and had multiple fake ID's on him.

A players character has nothing to do with winning the heisman. If it did Scam Newton wouldn't have been invited to New York. It should annually go to the most outstanding player in the SEC anyway. In the SEC #5 for Notre Dame would be just another face in the crowd among a lot of great defensive players. Johnny Football should win the award hands down.
