Canes Randy Shannon ?

  • So I preface this by saying I know that 98% of the fan base hates him. Im not fond of him either. Some rumors are swirling that we could be looking at him for DC ( not thrilled ) I know he would do a good job, but he burned a lot of bridges in Miami/ Dade. I think that could hurt us in recruiting. What are you're thoughts IF he ended up in Tally ( think its just rumors) Good hire or bad hire?

    I think it would be a decent hire. He definitely would have a lot of work to do on mending former relationships w/ SoFla coaches. The plus would be it has a high upside possibility but it's not where I would go with it personally. IMHO, it wouldn't bother/scare me one bit. Meh.

    He would be a good DC with your athletes. A little vanilla but he knows his X's & O's. Meh.

    Meh being the key word scares me.

  • If you hire him don't expect to land any South Florida players, Randy pissed off lots of people and he will pay for it if he tries to recruit south Florida, the Noles can do better.

  • Most Miami people don't hate him. He is a cane regardless. He just isn't HC material. He is a proven DC but I don't think it would be a good hire for FSU. RS would fit in at....Louisville. shrug

    I was shocked to see all of those coaches come out and complain about him.

    Honestly, I wouldn't be worried about facing FSU's defense with him in charge of it. Unless of course he updates his system. People complain about our DC not blitzing much. They fail to realize Randy was very vanilla and never blitzed. He just had stacked defenses.

  • Solid thread Los. USC was looking at him at DC, but looks like we would have suffered a lot of the same problems we had under Monte Kiffin.

    Thanks Canes for the input on Shannon. I feel better about going in another direction.

  • He always relied on his front 4 to put pressure on the QB while his stud DBs glued onto WRs. Wasn't creative at all. He just had stacked defenses period! lol

    Don't get me wrong, he wouldn't be a bad hire as a DC but I think both schools could do better. IF he swallowed his pride a little & learned to adapt to new age CFB, it would go a long ways. Just like with his HC gig, he's too damn stubborn for his own good most the time.

    Sounds even more like Monte. I hope whoever the new USC DC is, he is a lot more aggressive.

  • Randy's supposed success is hard to judge because he took over Schiano's defense after he left and went to Rutgers. Like mentioned before, he took over a NFL ready-made defense. Always felt that his true coaching showed up around 2004. His defenses are horrible against running qbs. Go back and look up rushing yards from Chris Rix and Christian Ponder when FSU played Miami, and you'll know what I mean.
