Car Stereos

  • Anyone have any insight on what the better brands are? My reception quality is poor in my car and I'm looking to upgrade the stock stereo and possibly add in a FM amplifier if that doesn't resolve the issues. I've been looking at this Kenwood Stereo (Attached below) but I want to get some insight before I purchase one. I think I've heard Kenwood is a pretty good brand when it comes to this stuff, but I'm not completely sure.

  • I have a Sony system, primarily because it was the easiest one for me to install myself that also had an iPod dock. Sound quality is good, but it's limited by the factory speakers in my car.

    I would recommend doing your research on any system before purchase, but I've had good luck with Pioneer, Sony, and Alpine systems.

  • There are lots of car stereo out there. Almost any after market stereo will be better than a factory one. If all your looking for is just better radio reception then you can't really go wrong. The better brands are pioneer, pioneer premiere, alpine, panisonic, jvc, Sony, kenwood excelon, blapunkt. I would recommend pioneer premiere or kenwood excelon

  • Alright thanks guys for the input. I will do my research on Kenwood and Pioneer products. Then hopefully decide what one I should go with.

    Also, just a thought. Does anyone think tinted windows can affect radio reception? My back windshield on my Monte Carlo is tinted, and the antenna is in the rear windshield. I'm just wondering if that can affect it somehow.

    No because your antenna has a cord that runs to the radio.

  • Nope. Digital and analog signal should be strong enough to penetrate your tint. How else would limos survive. Unless your window is made with lead, I'd think you're good..

    I just purchased a JVC from Walmart, and am very pleased with it! It sounds great, plays cds, and has a hook up for my ipod as well. I'm very satisfied with it! And for the recored, Kenwood makes fine car audio equipment too!! Good luck, and let me know how it goes!
