Carmello or Durant

  • Who is the better scorer?

    duvalnole

  • Please. Carmelo is a beast but Durant is going to be a top 5 all time scorer.

    fsufsu

  • Durant, and not sure it's really that close. Especially when one considers how consistent KD is and has been his entire career.

  • Carmello can shoot just as good as Durant as evidence by his big game against Nigeria

  • Durant is the much better scorer. If Anthony had Durants work ethic, he could have been a great all around player. Alas, that is not the case.

  • Its Durant and im not bring a homer or mad that 'cuse beat us in the tournament at all

  • Durant is the better scorer but Melo is more versatile, Anthony actually has a pretty good post game he just doesn't seem all that interested in showing it off.

Hey Trojans, LSU's 74 are better than your 75.

  • KD career average 26.3. Career FG% 46.8, career 3% 36.4 and career FT% 87.8.

Melo 24.7 points, 45.6% FG's career, 32.2% from three for career and 80.5% FT's for career.

That's the baseline before getting into why KD is the better scorer, and how he gets it done so efficiently.

So they are very close in averages and Melo has played four more years than Durant so his Averages are going to be a little bit lower.

I don't think you can just scout the box score, Durant certainly benefits from having two other great scorers on his team.

I'd take Durant also I just think the general opinion of Carmelo is a negative one and a lot of people will refuse to recognise what a good scorer he is.

Durant is better but why would you say Melo's should be lower cause he is in the league 4 years longer? That's makes no sense.

  • Based on what I saw in the Finals, I'm actually gonna go with Melo. Let me just preface this by saying I definitely think KD is a better all around player and it isn't close.

I think Melo just creates his own offense better. As spot up shooters which is mostly what both of them are I really can't tell how you'd say one is better than the other. Theyre both pretty lights out. Melo definitely jacks up more bad shots but I think he's got a way better low post game. If you get in Durants body and muscle him off the spot he wants to get to, as witnessed in the Finals, he's pretty ineffective from there. There's simply no doing that with Melo he's such a big body. I also think Melo is more effective off the dribble. Durant is really troubled by having a high dribble because of his incredible height so when a really good, smaller defender (a la Battier) gets in his body, he has a hard time creating space for himself to get his shot off. As with Melo, going one on one in any way is clearly his specialty.

Just one man's opinion, but I go with Melo as a better individual scorer.

  • Melo is the better score but he doesn't score more points.Melo is he better scorer because he can score easier and in more ways than Durant.KD is largely just a great jump shooter.Melo is a great jump shooter while also being a great post player and slasher. He can score over either shoulder with either hand.Just because KD is winning scoring titles doesn't mean he's the best scorer in the league.McGrady used to win scoring titles over Kobe but he clearly wasn't a better scorer then Kobe.

Melo is not a spot up shooter but I do agree with most of your post.

  • if you break it down to all around game its Carmelo. He's a inside and outside guy when it comes to putting up points but I would still take Durant over Melo. Melo is what he is but Durant is just scratching the surface of how good he could be.

Yea on second thought I did kind of misuse the term there. Where Durant is a true spot up shooter off the pass, Melo cuts out the middle man by never letting anyone else touch the ball and creates the same shot for himself.

I wouldn't take Melo over Durant either but he is the better scorer. He's just naturally more skilled. He doesn't have to work hard at putting the ball in the basket and has moves/skills you can't teach.Melo's also extremely aloof and down right lazy at times.
