What were people saying about the slippery slope before interracial marriage was legalized? "If we let the blacks marry the whites, next thing you know, the men'll want to marry the men and the women'll want to marry the women!" Or was it animals? Polygamy? Marrying yourself?

Below is a multiple choice question related to this topic:

What will happen if gay marriage is legalized?

A.) A third World War will break out.
B.) Various plagues – locusts, frogs, etc. – will break out.
C.) Schools will begin teaching kids how to have gay sex.
    D.) The terrorists will win.
E.) Gay people will get married.

On the plus side, it would really make that show Wife Swap a lot more entertaining.

It's using the bible to defend hate. Period. You can try to dress it up all you like, but it's hate and you're using the bible to excuse it.

What the hell is wrong with your brain that you would compare two consenting human beings having equal rights under the law with a human being marrying an animal?

It's the same premise man. Nothing is wrong with me. It is in the bible almost literally word for word that marriage is between a man and women.

It's not hate at all. It's sticking by what Christians believe in. And its not like this was decided yesterday. It's been a belief of Christians from the start. Sure, i will agree that some people take it to the extreme and equate man/woman marriage to "we hate gays", but real Christians do not think that way.

America was founded on freedom of religion. Christianity has been around since the beginning of time. They have never wavered from the stance of marriage being between a man and a woman. Was their something wrong with the brain of all of America's founding fathers?

You just said 'America was founded on freedom of religion.'

So why can't gays who aren't of the Christian religion get married?

Do you think this should be the law of the land:

"If a man meets a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her ... He must marry the girl ... He can never divorce her as long as he lives" Deuteronomy 22:28-29

It's in the Bible. Literally word for word...

No, bestiality and homosexuality are NOT the same thing, not by any stretch of the imagination.

Guess what, chief? The bible doesn't dictate our laws so I don't care what the bible says about marriage. Know what that is? The First Amendment. Separation of Church and State. Your religion doesn't get to dictate the laws by which all Americans live.

And Christianity has been around since the beginning of time? Ohhhh really now??

And it's your right to not care what the bible says. But, since America is a democracy, each person has a voice. Each state has the right to either ban or approve gay marriage. How is that religion dictating anything? Each individual has the right to think what they want to think. Each individual has the right to protest as well. If that bothers you, then move to a place where you are told what to think and you get shot for protesting.

If i'm a Christian, and I think marriage is between a man and a woman, i could care less if you disagree with me. My point is, don't disagree with me and call me a bigot or hater of gay people. It has nothing to do with that.

And yes, it is in the bible just like the other item you brought up was. There are a lot of things in the bible I and other religions don't agree with. There are a lot of amendments i don't agree with. There are a lot of state laws I don't agree with. It is my right, the religions right and anybody's right (at least in America) to feel that way.

It is against the law to have sex missionary style in North Carolina. I don't agree with that....But if I did, it would be my right, and it doesn't mean that i'm a bigot against missionary bangers.

It's not hate, and uninformed people think it is b/c a minority of idiots who claim they are "real" Christians talk about hating gay people. The majority of Christians do not feel this way.

But how does it affect YOU? How does two men or two women affect YOU? How does the "ruining of the sanctity of marriage" affect YOU? Is your life, your marriage, your existence so dependent on the workings of other people's lives? That's not healthy my friend.

If you put that logic to everything in life then the world would be chaos. Some women aborting a child in Egypt doesn't affect my life personally, but it doesn't change my belief that I believe it is wrong.

Do you think murder is wrong? How does some guy getting murdered in California affect YOU?

If I murder someone, I am directly affecting that person's life. Specifically, if we want to go political, I have interfered with their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. No offense, but no matter how you spin it, what two consenting adults do in their homes in no way infringes upon said rights.

    No. No. No.

You can't make an affirmative claim like "allowing gay marriage will ruin the sanctity of marriage" without explaining how it on an INDIVIDUAL basis affects marriage/people who are married.

Murrdawg i admire your persistence, and with level headed people who could think outside their box, listen to others opinion, and not mock others beliefs then you might make ground. However, most(not all) of the liberals on here literally cannot do those things, but keep fighting the good fight man. +1

You act like you're taking the "high ground," but we call this a "back handed" insult where I come from, intended to imply intellectual superiority over those who disagree with you. Basically, you're saying, "We're better than them," without actually saying it. You're no better than any other insult-slinging idiots in these discussions.

Hate to break it you man, but the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness is infringed upon on a daily basis. No matter how you spin it, if you want to sell a kilo of heroin to another consenting adult in your house that you own, your right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness could be taken away. Stop acting like religion is the only entity that has ideals that might infringe upon the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness ideal.

Are people flipping out at some of the religions that don't allow drinking of alcohol? They could interfere with my right to the pursuit of happiness. Problem is, the majority of people don't think that way, and in a democracy, that means there ideals don't become laws. In some states, the ideals of marriage being a man/woman thing is a law. Not because of the mean religious people, but because of the majority of people believing in that ideal (i.e.-democracy)

If someone gets murdered, their life/liberty/happiness right was infringed upon.

So because it's infringed upon on a daily basis, that makes it right? That makes it okay to do so in another venue? Do we really want to be a society known as the, "Well, so-and-so already broke the rules..." society?

I don't care what the entity is, infringing upon rights is never okay. Ever.

Plenty of horrible things used to be supported under the guise of democracy. Slavery, not allowing women to vote, you get the idea. I'm all for democracy, hell, I champion for it. Not not when it hurts others. Bigotry has been a big part of our history (not just America's, the world's) and I'd like to see us abandon that as much and as fast as we can.

You and he are just as unlikely to waiver from your opinions as we are. Acting like if there were more "level headed" people we could come to a compromise is ludicrous. You won't meet us halfway anymore than we will. Also, most of the people I've seen in this thread on both sides have been quite adult and well thought out, and those that haven't been, have made comments from both sides. But you only choose to point out the idiots from the liberal camp, which is disingenuous.

By the way? Not a liberal.
