Chip Kelly has accepted the TB job

sounds like a great idea - something has to be done about this type situation as its just not fair no +1

Coaches should be banned from the college game by the NCAA if it is proven that they were in anyway involved in cheating.

Also players and coaches should be legally responsible for harm they cause the schools due to cheating.

Of course that first idea is possible, but the holding players responsible is a whole different matter.

  • not to get off the cheating topic too far but.......... That offense is gonna get skull sexed in the League. No chance at all that his offense is successful.

Justin Wilcox- Washington DC Nick Allioti- Current DC Chris Petersen

Reuniting Petersen and Wilcox would be a pretty good hire, but Wilcox just accepted the DC job at Washington.

Did Chip Kelly actually install that offense or was it more the offensive coordinator?

Within the last hour or so, Chip has changed his mind and turned down the offer will remain at Oregon this season.

    Source or gtfo

Two sources high up in UO's athletic department, according to one of Eugene's Sports Columnists said Kelly had originally accepted but had a change of heart in the end and is staying at Oregon.

"University of Oregon football coach Chip Kelly told a highly placed UO source late Sunday night that he has reversed course and decided to turn down an offer from the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The source told The Register-Guard earlier Sunday night that Kelly had reached an agreement to become Tampa Bay’s head coach. “It’s done,” the source said.

Just before midnight, Kelly changed his mind, telling the source: “I’m staying.”

A second UO source confirmed that Kelly is staying.

Kelly told one assistant coach Sunday night that he had been offered the Tampa Bay job, but Kelly told him he wasn’t certain what he would do.

thumbsup How are any of these recruits the next few years gonna believe that he won't jump ship at any moment, in any year they are there. I think Chip kind of shot himself in the foot with this one. lol When will these coaches ever learn lol

Maybe the school puts a clause in the contracts that states the coach must reimburse the school if he knew about illegal activity. Say they have to pay back half of their salary for each year that illegal activity took place(from the time the coach knew). That could be a big chunk of change now-a-days. Maybe they would rethink the decisions they make.

Agreed. I've said the same thing about the athletes. Put it in their LOI/scholarship papers. For each dollar they accept in illegal benefits, etc., they must repay the university $x. For each game they are declared ineligible, $x. Otherwise, just like with Reggie, no consequences. He just looks in the rearview mirror and smiles.

Isn't that the risk you run with having one of the coaches which many consider one of the best in the country. If Saban hadn't have already tried, no Bama fan/player/recruit should be surprised to hear that he is leaving for the NFL. Same goes with Les Miles. Jim Harbaugh made the jump. I mean you can make a case against his "system" which many have but no one can convincingly criticizing his coaching ability. Kelly's got to be honest with recruits and their family, he got a very attractive offer, was seriously considering, but in the end was not ready to give up coaching at Oregon. All this running from sanctions talk no longer holds much relevance.

Like Colin Cowherd has said there is no reason Oregon should be good based on geography, local talent pool, population, etc. but we are now competing yearly for conference championships and BCS bowls. Kelly is going to be one of the figureheads for that fact.

It was close. Glad Tampa Bay didnt get him. Not the answer the Bucs need imo.

Exactly, it was close but in the end he turned down probably twice as much money and a shot at the NFL (which is someday wants) to stay at Oregon.

It's more Phil Knight's money than Kelly being brilliant. Would Okie St be a player without T Boone?

Kelly has had a nice run but other teams are building their D's to stop Oregon's offense and there is that NCAA investigation looming. Oregon was up and down under Belotti and it will be the same under Kelly.

Not discounting Phil's Knight contribution by any means with Knight backing, Belotti was able to turn Oregon into a solid program that flirted with big-time games a few times, but Chip is the coach that is going to keep Oregon at their current level of competitiveness within college football. Sorry, but I disagree that Oregon will be up and down under Kelly. Until further notice, and as long as Kelly is coach its going to be USC and Oregon battling it out for the PAC Championship. Washington has made some coaching moves to become competitive but I just can't think of another program in that category, it remains to be seen what all the new hires in the PAC-12 will do.
