Class of 2013 All-American Team

Five players from the state of Georgia, including the nation's top 2013 prospect, highlight 247Sports' All-American Team for the Class of 2013.

  • Unreal year in Georgia for 2013 and this team shows the difference between prospect rankings and an All-American team- they don't necessarily equate to each other- different standards of measurement.

Agree 100%. Folks that haven't done so need to access his 247 sports profile and watch his film. My brother watched [Tyren's 2011 film] and texted me "This kid is probably the best RB I've ever seen on film. Speed, power, quickness". This video doesn't even have 2 of his best runs from the season in an 80 yd TD against Peachtree Ridge and a 96 yd TD against South Cobb. These stats were compiled in Georgia AAAAA which was deemed by another site as the best classification/ division in the nation as 8-9 different AAAAA teams were ranked in the top 100 at some point during 2011.

In my opinion he is the best RB in the class of 2013 and at 5'9 he has the "ideal" height of what the NFL deems to be most effective for a RB. He will get bigger and stronger over the coming years.

*****For those that watch his video.... Watch his foot quickness.

Kevin Durant is moving up in my favorite All-Time Athletes list. Mama raised him right.

Yes. Jones is a player that isn't going to rank as highly in prospect rankings initially as some others, but certainly put up huge numbers.

    Very good film, though.

Again, what a crazy good year in Georgia next year.

So does Michigan shrug Lookin' good early with the three big Ill OL in Pocic, Bosch, and LTT, top 2 for Chris Fox, and top 5 for Tunsil.

I'm not. I've yet to see a single 24/7 staffer put together a decent all-American list. They did the same thing when they left Noah Spence off the 2012 All-American list. This is just more of the usual.

Don't see Pocic going to Michigan.. LTT is all Michigan. Bosch who knows, our staff must not like him as much seeing how we have yet to offer. Kid really wants an offer too..

We'll see what happens. Pocic is definitely considering us. That said, you have a great start with Elmer. Kid's a monster. Game on flex

Have you at least looked at the kind of years that Adolphus Washington (ohio State commit) and Darius Hamilton had this fall? Those are the guys that got it above Spence. Both are also five-stars. Both are rated behind Spence in the national rankings so we're not saying they're better prospects, just that they had slightly better seasons.

Hamilton had 21 sacks and was the best player on arguably the best HS team in America. Washington had 23.5 sacks and was practically a one-man team on defense.

    Spence had 12.5 sacks.

The decision we made is hardly absurd.

Foster is the top-rated receiver prospect in the country, but Quick and North put up bigger numbers strictly from a receiving standpoint.

I think Foster is a five-star prospect, but again, the All-American team weighs on-field production (stats, accolades, etc.) in addition to prospect projection.

Probably could have made a great argument for Foster in the all-purpose/athlete category for sure.

Jaylon Smith is phenomenal. Our top-ranked OLB in the country. However, like Barton and JC said, the three guys named to our All-America team at LB put up great seasons statistically. Tim Kimbrough from Indianapolis Warren Central is another LB that just missed making the team. He had 176 tackles during the fall. He's also ranked in our top-100. In my opinion, both Hoosier State standouts were deserving of making the team, but it's hard to argue with who did indeed make it as well.

Definitely agree that Georgia is absolutely loaded in 2013.

Just curious as to why RBs like Jones don't have the prospect ranking of some of the other backs (he's still top 70 overall in the nation which is very good). Are you guys projecting the RB prospects ability to excel in college and hence why he's not ranked as high as an example...: Altee Tenpenny? Tenpenny is a great RB prospect but he didn't play in 2011 due to injury and both had comparable stats as 10th graders. I'd think that with Jones rushing for almost 2,400 yards in what is probably the best classification in the country in 2011 and leading his team to 14-0 before losing in the AAAAA Championship Game that he'd be ranked higher than Tenpenny.

When I look at Jones, I look back at the size of RBs like Maurice Jones-Drew, Ray Rice, and Mark Ingram and even old-school like Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith were as juniors in high school......and I "project" that Jones will have similar development/maturation physically over the next 3-4 years. Seems that backs like Maurice Jones-Drew and Ray Rice were underrated as high school prospects going to college and as college prospects heading into the NFL due to size. All they did in 2011 was finish 1 & 2 in rushing in the NFL.

The gist of my point is I'm a little confused why bigger RBs get a bump in recruiting even though Ray Rice's, Maurice Jones-Drew's and Mark Ingram's of the world are very productive in college and the NFL.

LOL...I was going to ask the exact same question though not in as elaborate detail as you have done. I look at the film of all of the 2013 backs rated higher and the difference does not jump out at me...the only thing Jones lacks as comparison are the height/weight measurables...looking at his skills as a RB, his skillset seems more complete. Looking forward to the answer from JC or another member of the staff.
