Class of 2013 Top247- Final

  • Just posted this elsewhere about RB rankings and thought I'd add here :

The issue with the RB rankings is that all the sites are bad at it as they place too much emphasis on appearance (ie. size & muscle tone) and camp & combine performance. Another thing is they penalize guys that don't play in after season All-American games (ie. some kids weren't invited and others didn't play due to injury). Take a look at the top 10-15 leading rushers in the NFL in 2012. About 1/2 were 2 or 3 star players. In fact the top 2 Rookie RBs in the NFL, Alfred Morris and Doug Martin, were both 2 star players. I only use the recruiting services to know which prospects to review in order to form my own opinion. Typically, only about 3 of the top 20 RBs each year as rated by the recruiting services during their senior season ever play 1 down in the NFL. That isn't good scouting IMO.

Jabrill Peppers...More I watch, the more I'm convinced he is the best player in the 2014 class. Barring injury, he will do special things.

    Amen to that

Have you changed your stance on Greg Bryant at all or see anything differently

I agreed with your take on him previously ( over the summer IIRC ) but he has something I can't explain really, call the " it " factor if you will

I wouldn't say he is hands down the best back in this class, but he is still my favorite one

You make some good points, but you also are saying college coaching staffs don't do a good job of scouting running backs. Nobody really recruited Doug Martin or Alfred Morris.

I agree with your point on appearance. We don't rank running backs that way. That's why Derrick Green and Greg Bryant are not as high for us as they are with others.

Ugh, I don't speak for him but yes.... many staffs haven't a clue on how to find great caliber RB's, not all but when you figure how many coaches are out there, well acting like they all know what they are doing is just foolish

Jeff Bowden still coaches in college for christ sake, I would take Dookie's RB knowledge over that silver spoon fed idiot all day everyday

There is only a handful of coaches out there who have great eyes for talent and breakdown RB recruiting into an art form of sorts

Is that a prediction? What if they take him? What if he goes? Sounds like speculation to me.

The Auburn staff was saying they were getting all of those guys. I decided not to argue.

They always had a lot to say. It was obvious.

We have a rankings history module coming for profile pages that will show where a prospect was ranked throughout the process. It will show both 247Sports rating/ranking and 247Composite in a line graph format so you can get an idea of risers and fallers quite easily.

    Cool addition
