  • LSU COACHES to Patrick Miller "How did you and your family enjoy your week long stay in Baton Rouge, oh by the way you have no scholarship, we couldn't cut one of our special teams players in time to get you on campus" "Do you want to pay for Spring semester yourself, we will have plenty of 4 and 5 star guys we missed on in recruiting to cut by summer"

    Patrick " I am heading to Auburn, they played there Bowl game on December 24th and have already had a chance to cut there players who didn't pan out for them, see you next fall."

    Ah the SEC we sign 5 classes of recruits for every four that other conferences sign, gee I wonder how we are successful.

    Trust me we didn't need to "cut" anyone. We were well under the scholarship number to begin the season. Go ahead and continue though.

    I read somewhere where the Pac 12 leads in oversigning the other day.

  • I think the OP has it right. Clearly Auburn cut their best player (Dyer) to make room for an OT. Makes perfect sense. Bama needs a little wiggle room in our recruits this year too. Heard we're about to cut AJ McCarron... since offensive MVP of a national championship game seems to be the theme here.

    Honey Badger better look out. If another OT recruit comes on the table that is a "take", the Badgers spot may be in joepardy.

    Seriously though, thats one thing that always bugged me about the oversigning dude. He lists players that I would have LOVED to keep, but they broke their freakin' leg and can't play anymore... or really good guys who transfer because their stuck behind depth. Good teams have good depth, and good players want to play - simple as that. Can't stand the oversigning bidniz.

    USC is losing players like crazy. Maybe it's their idea or maybe Kiffin is pushing them out the door. I tend to think Kiffin has a strong hand in all this, call me loco

    Not sure how you can read this article and not believe that oversigning is a definite competitive advantage. I think it sucks and there should be an NCAA rule for all conferences to abide by. I also can't blame the coaches who take advantage of the loop holes to keep the best 85 on scholarship. They're paid millions of dollars to produce and win championships. The pressure is unbelievable. I believe the SEC is unfairly made the poster child for this practice. There's no doubt that some of there schools take part, but other schools from different conferences are just as guilty as they are and should not be pushed to the side simply because the SEC is higher profile.

  • Oversigning is unethical . That's why it's not allowed in the big ten. The sec doesn't need oversigning to be good... But it sure helps the cause

    No offense, but perhaps the reason you can't stand it is because bama is one of the major culprits?

  • 1) pull a list of cut players who had their scholarships yanked for no reason and couldn't finish school. No one has ever provided this and I ask in every one of these threads by B1Gers. It just gets ignored.

    2) if you have such a problem with what you perceive as revoking scholarships for under performing, you should also have a major issue with academic scholarships being pulled for the same. But no one will provide evidence of scholarships being pulled from current scholarship athletes based on performance.
