  • My thoughts:

Urban: Fair enough, if you consider his whole body of work outside the B10. Time will tell how he works out in the B10.

Bielema: I'd knock him down a spot because he has cost his team wins with his decisionmaking.

Dantonio: Damn straight. I'd put him at #2.

Hoke: Tough to rank because he only has 1 season coaching big time football. His team overachieved, but not predominantly because of his coaching.

Fitzgerald: It's mindboggling how you can put him below 4th. Northwestern is built to be a perennial cellar-dweller. Thanks to his coaching (and solely his coaching), they're in the 6-8 win range. I could make a strong case for him being the best coach in the conference.

I agree, just because it is hard to evaluate any coach who was never a HC.

  • Yea it is hard but I think he will be solid coach at the least, hes already off to a good start recruiting and he had a lot of sucess with the Patriots and learned from a great coach in Belichick

Not to start a flame war here, but how was Michigan's improvement not predominantly a result of Hoke?

I think he will as well, and he has surrounded himself with a good staff including probably the best S&C guy in the country. But, you just don't know until the fall.

Hmmm. Mickey Marotti argues with this statement. He'll "train them so they can maximize their genetic potential". This guy is a freak, he controls everything entering the players body, each has weight and body fat goals each week, and every week a new meal plan is designed for them. He is one of only 100 strength trainers to hold a Master of Strength and Conditioning (and earned it 24 years ago). SEC speed is down to a science for Marotti

Edit: I just noticed PSU S/C coach also has the master, he recieved it in 2010

Ha, alright. Michigan's defense didn't look 100x better than the previous year at all..

I can't imagine that any sane person would argue that Michigan would have won 11 games under RR last season or would Michigan's Defense look like they did with him.

So do Nebraska and Notre Dame. If you claim that Michigan had a weak schedule last year, did MSU have a weak schedule in 2010 and that is the only reason they won 11 games?

Probably, but not sure why that matters.

Most MSU fans I've talked to don't say that, just checking to make sure you aren't an obvious hypocrite. And btw, I don't believe in the schedule argument in major conferences, every team plays good teams and arguing about which teams the other played is pointless.

Marotti is great as well, but he has a different philosophy than Fitz. He is perfect for what Urban wants to do (speed) while Fitz is more geared towards explosion.

All I can tell you is that we have already seen a difference in our guys, particularly in the linemen. And that was without a majority of the equipment that Fitz uses (it just got installed last week). We cannot wait to see the improvement by the time fall rolls around.

EDIT: BTW, our last S&C guy had a Master of Strength and Conditioning as well. That didn't help us much... we were weak in the trenches. We were well conditioned, but that did not outweigh the fact that I saw one of our OL get pancaked by an Indiana St lineman. It was sad.

Uh Duh. Why did they win more games?

Becuase the defense was improved ala Gregg Matisson.

Yep that would be the reason. It's football man not rocket science! Your fan base is 1 of the most football savy in the sport. Don't make thim look bad!

My 5 year old son could of answered that question, though he would have followed it up with a Muck fichagin.
