Coaching Carousel Prediction and Discussion Thread....

  • You can add or take away, just plug in names or give a novel's worth of a breakdown. What happen's in this offseason's wild carousel of coaches? Obviously you may want to say who takes the job that's being vacated as well.

Kentucky: Bobby Petrino, UK is a combination of a "lower top tier" job that would fit Bobby's current PR issues as well as having the money and affiliations to draw him. Petrino and Calipari.....impressive in Lexington

Tennessee: Not sure yet, but Dooley is done. I think they go heavy into the GPatterson sweepstakes but I've got him to Arkansas. I think the Vols may end up pretty screwed in all this.

    Auburn:

Arkansas: Gary Patterson, the Hogs are out in front of all this, have deep pockets and although it could all be lost in a short period of time the program still has a great roster and a lot of momentum. With the boon TAMU will get from beating Bama though the SECW looks more and more like an utter death trap.

    Go on....

I dont want to add to much of my own opinion or the thread will just be folks picking apart the OP.

  • I think you will see Tommy Tuberville's name pop up for one of these positions

I also think Petrino will get asked for a bigger position

  • Chip Kelly to the NFL is a rumor that seems to have smoke BILLOWING up from it at this point. I wonder if it would just be as simple as he leaves and Pederson replaces him from Boise.

The only issue I see with Kelly going to the NFL would be, why he is leaving. He doesn't seem to be a fit. If he leaves, I would wonder if that means that NCAA is going to come down hard. If not, I think Oregon might be the only program Peterson leaves for. He just seems at home in Boise and wouldn't want a major change. I think Eugene is somewhere he feels comfortable and he would have the same recruiting areas.

UK is not interested in Petrino from what they say.

Petrino to Tennessee, IMO. Would be a great fit and very dangerous there as well.

Auburn- Shawn Watson. He's the OC at Louisville. Not sure why, but his name has surfaced and Auburn does things differently than most. I don't think this is going to point to the type of internal change that most of their fans are hoping for.

  • Cant see Petrino to Tennessee just to be honest. There have been character issues in Knoxville across a couple sports in the head coaching realm of late and the fan base has bemoaned it.

They wont get desperate until after Bobby has taken a job though. Vol fans dont like it but I kinda expect a scenario where after hearing 5-6 "No"s the Vols are on the phone begging a guy like Dan Mullen to come and he's just saying, "Naw" and they are freaking out.

  • If all the big names drop us, then I would look for Tennessee to go after David Cutcliffe hard.

  • Arky has a LOT riding on this coaching hire. They've already seen A&M pretty much get to their level and are rising for the foreseeable future. This hire could set them back a decade if they get the wrong guy.

Oregon isn't going to get any sort of "hammer" a slap on the wrist is far more likely. Chip want's to be an NFL coach. it has nothing to do with the NCAA. He wants to coach the best and coach against the best.

    My new prediction:

Tennessee: Tommy Tubberville Arkansas: Gundy Kentucky: Macyntire Auburn: Gus Malzahn

Malzahn is an Arkansas guy. He was offered other jobs and took a lesser job with more stress for less money to be in Arkansas.

I could see him at Arkansas but not at Auburn.

TBH I think he is happy at Arkansas State.
