Never heard of Kazmaier, but I remember te first three sticking out in the 'ole Heisman history. I mean the first three winners from two schools like that: one dropped its football program because of the lack of character and pride in education (a.k.a. not wanting to cheat players and cheat for them) and one that's an Ivy league.

Nile Kinnick is correct. He was the second Big Ten winner (Chicago was in the conference when Jay Berwanger won the trophy in 1935), and he remains Iowa's lone winner. He was president of the Iowa student body the year he won the Heisman. He passed up a chance to play pro football to attend law school in hopes of one day following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who was the governor of Iowa. A year after the start of law school, Kinnick joined the military for World War II. He was a Navy pilot, and during a test flight in 1943, his plane suffered an equipment failure. Instead of risking the lives of the men on his carrier ship, he crash landed into the ocean. His body was never found. In 1972, Iowa Stadium was officially renamed in honor of Kinnick.
