College football's upper class

  • This is America. We don’t have kings. We have "blue bloods," the "nouveau riche, “ and the corporate elite. They make up our upper class. See where your favorite team ranks...

I disagree on the statement that we don't have kings, USC in the West, Oklahoma/Texas in the Midwest, Alabama in the South, and Michigan/OSU in the North. I think you move Tennessee and UGA out of the blue bloods to the Corporate Elite, LSU and UF to the Nouveau Rich, and the list doesn't look half bad.

  • I actually agree with a lot of this... Kinda like that rich family that is rich because they have always been rich... guy that made his fortune thing.. makes so much since... the upper class isn't necessarily ranked higher or lower... its like saying Bill Gates is rich because he made his fortune vs the Waltons are rich because daddy gave them money... Walton family may have more money but they didn't get it by themselves but they also didn't lose all of their money.... ND may be going through a recession but they are def still a rich school... stock might crash soon though...

The waltons don't belong in that group....they belong in the vulgar rich category. Money doesn't buy you everything, and they're a #1 example.

Bill Gates on the other hand, has wealth and has made it a life goal to share it.

  • I'm just talking about money in general... ur over analyzing the metaphor lol... I was saying Bama for instance have had the financial(name brand) that a coach has passed down a history of doing well over time and they still stay rich(winning) but FSU has made their money over an entire lifetime... UF for instance has had the resources to be rich and they have been around all the time but until recently have they made it to the richest... FSU went from poor to rich, and Bama has sustained being rich...

Haha, I just think that "blue blood" list has about half those programs that don't belong. Obviously, the OP wants to come up with some homer criteria to put a program he covers on there. Not saying that those programs are not excellent or have had some shining moments.

It's not just what a program has accomplished in their conference, or regionally..it's excellence that spans nationally over the course of a university's history. If you can look at the history of a program and see several eras of dominance and excellence, then they are in that upper level of "blue bloods". Whatever that means.

I agree, the blue Blood programs do not encompass all of those teams. UGA in the BB? LOL

The author of the article is the publisher of both Oregon and Auburn's 247 sites. You have to expect some homerism.

yeah that is what I thought...

Bama guy who just said that is being a homer cause he doesn't like Auburn but 3 undefeated seasons in the SEC since 93 shows they are an elite team... GA is the only team(as you stated) which is hard to place considering they are probably in between upper class and rich and they have been that way forever...

Kings are assasinated or die and don't return. The teams you mention may fall some but return to some degree. At this point the only king might be Notre Dame.

Penn St... and Notre Dame falls into that haven't elected the right leadership in to take advantage of the resources yet so not Kings just stupid BOT that pick the wrong leaders(metaphorically)

  • auburn cracks me up. 2 bcs bowls, 3 double digit wins, and 3 losing seasons in the in the last dozen years is elite? not even elite in your own division, much less conference, and certainly not nationally.

Haters gonna hate. I feel pretty comfortable with the last ten years of Auburn football and I think I am gonna love the next ten.
