those guys don't even go to class AT ALL. they know its a one year contract.

    This is not actually true.

My nephew is married to a girl that is getting her PhD at UK and she tutors for the athletic program. I always wondered how them basically dropping out after the season would affect the APR and asked her.

One of the things that Cal stresses to these kids that they must finish out their Spring semester in good standing so that it does not hurt the APR.

As a result, Kentucky actually is tied with Vanderbilt for the league's highest at a 974.

i dont get why you SEC guys are celebrating Kentucky's title so much? who cares. It wasn't your team that won.

And unless you are a Bama fan why are you celebrating their football title so much. I don't get it.

If a B1G school won the title and they weren't named Nebraska, I wouldn't celebrate it at all. As a matter of fact I would be a little angry by our competition having so much success. How you guys can be rivals with these schools all year long and then cheer and brag about their success will never make sense to me.

Southerners aren't true fans, where have you been?

I hate to say it but if bowling was a major sports the SEC would probally win the natty in it too.

well no intelligent Husker fan thought we would beat you guys. And none of us expect much success with Taylor Martinez anyway.

And you guys have won baseball, your teams were awesome. I just don't understand why you are so excited about your rivals winning titles while your team is sitting at home watching it. Do you guys cheer win or lose every conference game? Well you guys beat us, but at least the SEC won! SEC! SEC! SEC!

It really only applies in postseason/nonconference games. The perception that the SEC is the best helps us dramatically with recruiting, so I feel it is a good thing for us. A top recruit from South Carolina is more likely to pick USC over Clemson because he feels its a better league (this has been the case the last few years).

Taylor Martinez is a good guy, but his throwing motion....yikes.

I didn't know how to phrase it. Richest, most bad ass, coolest. All those things are B1G.

SEC is the best at one major sport, don't get it twisted.

    Coolest?

    Most legendary perhaps.

    Most leaders sure.

    Largest women definitely.

    But not coolest.

It was fun taking over your arena this year.

Have fun taking credit for other teams' succes.

And no one cares about College Baseball because MLB scouts don't care about college baseball.

  • It's always funny to laugh at these "my conference is better than your conference" threads.

It's like me saying the city I live in is better than your city, so that makes me superior to you. Actually, each program is judged independent of conference against another program. Conference does matter to some degree and the SEC has a strong conference.

Interestingly enough, I have found that the teams from a conference that cheer "SEC SEC SEC" (or whatever conference) are usually the teams that need the conference as their identity (because their team is less than stellar).

    Partially true.

From someone that is not from the South, but went to school here and live here now for work, I would say that it is more about having pride in their region. People in the South are more strongly passionate about the region itself than those that live in other areas and that rolls over into the SEC pride, IMO.

I think the LSU's, Alabama's, and Florida's are just as passionate about the SEC, but maybe it just annoys people more when they here it from Ole Miss or someone like that and it sticks in your mind more.

I don't agree with all of the politics in the South or much anything else honestly, except for their passion for their school, but I do enjoy living in this area. There is something to be said for the hospitality and kindness that most people show their neighbor sort of thing that they have going on. It's not like the other areas I have lived have people that are complete a-holes, but people as a whole are more friendly. Just don't mess with their religion and college football. Then you see a different side of folks (g).

I do plan on moving away, as my kids are getting older and I want them to experience a little more diverse way of thinking at some point, but it is a place that I would plan to come back to and live when I'm older.

Like betteroff said, you just notice it more. Most people's first instinct when they feel slighted is to fire back an insult, so ultimately every time a thread like this pops up everyone replies back that our fans' opinions are less valued because of the history of our program. Only idiots think that way, but it's the most common response and if I had to guess, primarily derived from insecurity.

I like to see the SEC do well because that's the conference my team plays in. A lot of the players on these teams are from Alabama and other parts of the South, where I'm from, and I like to see "my people" do well. Southern pride is a powerful thing to many of us. Now, I hate Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU with a passion but a silver lining to all of them winning national titles in the past 15 years is that it makes the SEC look good. Some posters ITT keep saying they don't care about conference pride yet they have repeatedly tried to explain why their conference is the best at this or that...so obviously they care enough to argue.

I know USC fans like to chant "SEC SEC SEC" on this board more than most fans but to be fair, I can't remember the last time an SEC team won the football national title without their fans chanting "SEC SEC SEC" at the game (other than this past year since we were both from the SEC). I thought I heard UK fans chanting it the other night too?
