Damn, just talked to Alonzo about this.
I'm not so upset that he flipped, but that we didn't purse other corners in our own backyard. Oh well, it happens.
Congrats Noles. You got a good one and don't have to worry about Greg Reid type bs.
At least 2014 will be just as good for DB's and we get to lock down Serra and tap into Salesian next year.
I noted in a thread about a month ago (just before the Sun Bowl debacle) that Kiffin needed to be fired and got DV'd by the masses. Kiffin is not the answer for USC. It actually surprises me that USC has kept him this long.
Coaches are very similar to recruits: those who create the most drama are very rarely great.
Jack could not control grown ass men in the NFL, so what makes you think he can handle a bunch of teenagers.
They're not going to fire him because he's dealing with sanctions and blah blah blah. Plus what big name coach would want to come in into situation where he only has 15 scholarships to work with. I'm okay with Kiffin being a coach for another year if that means he gets fired after a sub par year and we hire someone like Rio.
Jack Del Rio is not the solution after Kiffin. I'm not sure who is, but JDR has never coached a lick of CFB.
And Nick Saban was a juggernaut with the Dolphins
What do you mean by control? Off the field or on the field? If you mean on the field then that wasn't his fault he did everything he could for one of the worst franchises in the NFL. Hell didn't he take them to the playoffs with Garrad as a QB? Not to mention the fact that the organization did nothing to bring in talent. As for off the field I don't really think they had much trouble in that category.
Look at him now though, Denver's defense drastically improved under him and was number 2 in turnovers and run defense. He'd do wonders at USC.
Also, Saban couldn't control grown ass men in Miami and neither could Pete when he was with the Jets.
But Nick Saban proved that he could coach in college while Jack has never coached in college
Either way Rio would be an upgrade over Kiffin.
Actually when we had Tom Couglin we were one of the toughest teams to beat, and then we hired Jack and teams very rarely feared us. Also MJD and Freddy T took us to the playoffs that year, and he made the decision to draft Leftwich and then start him against the Patriots in his one and only playoff apperance with my Jaguars. Yes he is a good D-coordinator, but he is terrible as a head coach.
I am very happy with Ramsey and I think he will be a great CB addition. Once we get our DBs next year (a couple are ready to commit now), we are stacked with great talent.
Lol you're a Jaguars fan? I can see why you have animosity towards him . I'm a Chargers fan though so I can't talk.
Can't argue with your second paragraph though. Being a good coordinator doesn't translate into being a good head coach.

Yes I grew up with the Jaguars and Tampa Bay being on the tv every sunday, so I became fans of both teams.
OT but what happened with bucs? Seems like y'all were headed to the playoffs then everything just fell apart?
the glazers bought Man U and became very cheap. this pissed off the fanbase as well as deciding beloved players like derrick brooks needed to be forced into retirement. then they hired raheem morris. end of story
FSU Ambassador to the masses
So, USC guys, with the decommit of Ramsey, how confident is your fanbase with EV and Fitts? Seems like Kiffens wheels are falling off the school bus. A tandem of Fitts and EV at ND would be nice.
3 time POTW
They're both going to UCLA. But I wouldn't be suprised if EV ended up at ND or Bama.
Question, to SC and FSU fans - and sorry if this has been answered ITT or wherever
Was Ramsey to FSU a big surprise? I heard at least two weeks ago that even Kiff et al felt he was all FSU.
Not so fast on Jalen...
I wouldn't call it a surprise personally but I wasn't confident in getting him. I felt that him leaving USCw was 50/50 and picking us or UF was 50/50 if he left.
I'm sure to the fans it was, but like you said I'm sure the coaching staff had a feeling or was aware he was going to flip.
No, not a surprise at all he flipped. The timing was.
Yeah all I heard via text was "he gone" and "FSU". This was a few weeks ago - so I just assumed by now it was common knowledge.
Any word on Powell?
