It was 100 years ago this month that the term was first used in print by The Iowa Alumnus in which E.A. McGowan used the phrase to describe the University of Iowa's fans in a 1903 game between Iowa and Illinois.
haha losers. You didn't come up with it.
why do you get so angry when facts are introduced?
Shouldn't the 100 year anniversary have been in 2003?
You really are dumb.
tom is a historian, not a mathematician.
just because you trademarked it, doesn't mean you came up w/ it. the university of iowa did it long before you did, and it's documented. there is no disputing that fact.
In American football, the term was first used in an alumni publication of The University of Iowa in 1912 in reference to its fans. The term was first applied to an individual, E. King Gill in 1922. In subsequent years, students at Texas A&M University adopted the term as their moniker and the school formally trademarked the term in 1990.
The first recorded use of the term "twelfth man" was in the November 1912 edition of The Iowa Alumnus, an alumni publication of the University of Iowa (then known as State University of Iowa) in which E.A. McGowan described the 1903 game between Iowa and the University of Illinois. In his article, titled "The Twelfth Player" McGowan wrote: "The eleven men had done their best; but the twelfth man on the team (the loyal spirited Iowa rooter) had won the game for old S.U.I."

Dont be sad, bro. All your traditions are not a sham. I am confident A&M was the first school to come up with fish camp, jizz jars, worshipping a dog, and milkmen cheerleaders
2003 - 1912 = 100?
Texas fans are so pathetic and obnoxious. If the Aggies are as irrelevant and unworthy as you claim, why spend so much time focusing on them?
Same can be said about Bama fans who post about Auburn or other teams
Also USMCAG is really pissed off right now
Where did I ever make mention of them, brah?
Texas should be gearing up for their huge game against Iowa state this weekend only on the LHN™.
I don't see how mentioning the 100 year anniversary of a pretty common football term has anything to do with a school I didn't mention. Do you? If so maybe you're the one who is obsessed with that school.
I... I got nothing. Y'all take this one.
Hey now, dont go around using our trademark. Well sue.

I'm pretty sure Alabama fans are more obsessed with Texas than Texas fans are with whichever school you want to choose. Prove me wrong by posting again and again how you aren't.
We're obsessed with Texas? Can I get a link or two? Burden of proof's on you.

There is one.
Man, Internet trolling has really gone down hill. Can we get T I G E R back?
we don't need to practice cheering like y'all do. i'm ready to go. put me in coach!
on bourbon street, posting on tbb.
very definition of "doing it wrong."
There's another one. Just a few more posts and you'll prove me wrong.
Well I'd sure hate to disappoint.
