Same level, winning titles is a lot of luck too my friend
And you can't just base it all on championships either
Plus Bowden and Spurrier had to play each other every year, Bama has no rival that can match up to them year in and year out
FSU had to deal with 2 of the best programs college football has ever seen
FSU also went to 3 straight BCS title games, they lost one because their QB was hurt and another because a 1300 yard WR decided to get suspended while their OC was already thinking about his new job at UGA

fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
Under Saban's watch, we've really had just one major off-field program, back in February. In an earlier post, I said we're not perfect, but we're not Georgia or Tennessee or some of these other places that are facing arrests all the time. It's been a predominantly issue-free run, but not spotless.
Only way Urban knew how to win at UF, have a bunch of goons that run the team and dodge any and all punishment #WinAtAllCosts
wow you are something else, believe what you want
You clearly have too much pride is all
Well, that was Pre BCS.
Im pretty sure there were a few yrs, back then, that UF and FSU's computer rankings would've been top 3, easy.
And UF had the monster that was FSU, and Tenn was rolling back then.
Spurrier, Snelly and Bowden built programs. Big difference IMO.
Edit: that doesn't mean I think they're better coaches like Jimmy Johnson.

No I did not lose a sig bet, but I am really really really ridiculously good looking.
Yeah, Saban has had the gift of having no real rivals
Its a big deal in college
You had what you mentioned and FSU had Miami and you guys, that is almost always a loss or two every year
And back then, that was your season pretty much
These days, with how the media and polls favor the SEC, Bama can afford a loss and still in it all almost every single year
The run FSU put on thru the late 80s and 90s was incredible. But when you're separating the all-time greats, we all know that what separates them is the crystal. Fair or not, that's just how it is.
There's no argument for FSU having to play Florida and Miami in the same season, but they were also insulated by a terrible conference as well, which helped tremendously. Hell, they didn't lose a conference game for like 5 years, did they, til the Barbers got'm up there in Charlottesville?
Right now, probably not a rival that I would say comes close to what FSU dealt with in Miami or Florida, but they also didn't have to play a difficult SECCG either. That balances it out some.
Do you mean Amari Cooper?
Agreed but that, too, has been built and not just given.
Jimmy Johnson built my dallas cowboys lol..
Remember, also, that if not for Bama and Saban, then we watch Tebow, Urban and the Gators win another one in '09, and this conversation is completely different. So we've had to deal with the same UF. And if Saban doesn't get Tebow'd in '08, then ...
So, I mean, I'm not sure it's fair to say we haven't had to deal with some rivals. They just may not be every year. We did play Florida four years in a row until last year, and completely dominated them in 3 of them.
You mean amare cooper because Andre played for fsu in the 90's
The recruiting in Fl is a big deal.
Not a shot at FSU or UM, but look how the hiring of Shannon, and not firing Bobby soon enough, changed the entire landscape of college football.
If there is one state power in Florida...
Saban and Bama, are definitely on that top tier of coaches/programs of all time list.
Nobody is gonna dispute that. But, to say that nobody has run a program, as strong as that, is a little far stretched imo.
Spurrier won the SEC in his 1st yr, and ended up just getting bored. Imagine what UF would be like, if he were able to catch a 6-7 yr break, when FSU and Bowden were going down.
Or if Bowden would've caught UF or UM in just a 2-3 yr program transition, that man would've broke all types of recruiting, wins, and etc records.
Bowden did break all kinds of records, WHEN Florida was rolling too.
I'm not just talking about wins and losses. I'm talking about the whole enchilada.
Spurrier left. Not much else to say. He'll go down as the 3rd best coach in SEC history IYAM. Won a buncha league titles, but only one natty. Bear had 6, SaBear has 3 (4 if you count LSUcks). And SaBear is going to have say in the GOAT before it's all said and done IMO IYAM.
I agree on Saban. No way to discount the work that is being put in at Bama right now.
This thread has gone every which way.
lol ... it really has.
What Saban has accomplished is remarkable and he is on his way to becoming the greatest coach of all-time, the question is who can stop them?
4-0 in BCS Champ games that is insane..
apparently the gus bus
Someone who plays a mirror style with equal or better players. Because of how much we've improved offensively the last couple of years (w three different OL coaches in three years, mind you), you now have to score a bunch to beat us too, on average. So stopping us is tough, and scoring on us is tough. But it can be done, and sometimes certain situations help.
For example, in '11 when we lost to LSU, we kept the reigns on AJ and didn't trust him to make plays. Relied on a tremendous defense and nearly got it done. But, LSU caught us with an inexperienced QB, and they were equally great on D. Worked out.
Last year, people can ignore it or poo-poo it if they want, but aTm caught us coma. We handled them in the final 3 quarters and had the ball inside the 5 with less than 2 mins to win it, but couldn't get it done. It was the perfect situation for an upset.
